I ordered the 50 pack of Wine Preserva discs after learning about the product from the sommelier at Baker and Banker restaurant in San Francisco.

The product is very straightforward: A disc of plastic bubble pak that floats on the surface of an opened bottle of wine. The bubble pak is surrounded by a ring of thin, flexible plastic fingers that touch the inside of a bottle and seal the surface of the wine from the air above. The Preserva effectively keeps the wine from developing an off taste due to oxidation for four or five days.

I find that the Preserva is easier and more effective to use than vacuum pumps, filling the bottle with inert gas, refrigerating, or jamming the cork back into the bottle, The Preserva works with cylindrical bottles but will not work in a bulb or flask shaped bottle. When you want to finish your wine, just tip the bottle and the remaining wine flows easily past the floating disc. As a bonus, when the wine is finished you can fish the Preserva out of the bottle and wash it for reuse.
