Seriously, they work really well. We've carried wines back from France sealed inside the skin and tucked inside our luggage. Didn't lose a drop or even crack a seal. Gave sets to our friends and the skins have been used for everything including mustards, spices, liquors and tequila. Definitely wine sized only, will not fit champagne or sparkling wine bottles. As long as it fits inside, you're good to go.

We recently traveled overseas to Greece and just knew we would return with something or other in bottles (wine, olive oil, vinegar, Raki...) so we ordered a few of these Wine Skin protectors before leaving.
Having returned now I am happy to report that these worked great. The protectors not only have an inner layer of bubble wrap but also a rather sturdy outer plastic "skin". To close, one folds over the opening twice, each fold closes with adhesive tape. I felt very comfortable placing this into our checked luggage. One of the bottles we transported was made of plastic, and I was a bit worried that it might burst but it also held up perfectly in the protector.
The reason we decided on these and not one of the reusable products was that this looked like the most space and weight-saving design. In times where many airlines charge for checked luggage and/or restrict passengers to one suitcase only, the space/weight consideration to us became the most important one although I would have preferred a reusable product. However, if one transported a smaller bottle in such a protector the second time around (think beer bottle size vs. wine bottle), the skin could be reused at least once (cut off the taped part to open, insert the smaller bottle, then re-close it with packaging tape).
We found these to be very useful and will definitely order them again.
