excellent reception, easy install,
This review is from: Winegard GS-2200 Sensar III Amplified VHF/UHF Antenna System (Electronics)
This antenna pulls in the four major networks plus PBS with perfect HD reception. The four networks are all broadcast from towers located within one mile of each other. That makes aiming the antenna easy. The distance from the towers to my house is 31 miles. If the antenna gets more than 30 degrees off then reception falls off dramatically. The amplifier must be plugged in or there is no reception. It is an in-line amp that uses the coax cable. For my situation, it is the perfect antenna. The price was also nice and there is virtually no assembly.

this product is unique in design, structure and use, make sure to get J-tube
to mount.Only problem I had was the original box tells in what zone this antenna works well if you are familiar with antennaweb.org and plot your co-ordinates or check the chart which shows available DTV/HDTV stations. Unfortunately amazon product feature/ specifications do not show this most relevant information. If you are purchasing one winegard antenna, please call winegard to findout which will work better in what zone.

This is a low cost, light weight and fairly small profile antenna. It comes with a signal booster/amplifier that looks like a two way splitter. The power supply connects the amplifier with a coaxial cable, neat! (It would make the wire hard to break.) The antenna is also very easy to install. Because the antenna is painted gray, it does not stick out much on the roof.
The antenna does its work well. Thanks to Winegard's website that helped me to select the right product. HD quality is great, even though I am located in a poor reception area ('purple' coded area). This includes stations 30 miles away. I am happy that I can receive about 15 stations (not counting sub-channels). It is just because there are as many stations within the radius. The antenna also works for FM radio. The analog TV reception, however, is just so-so, most of analog stations show some ghosting. (I have not compared this to another antenna. Guess the analog will soon go away, so it's not a problem.) The only con is it does not come with a mounting post. You may need to pay $20 to buy a J-mount/mask to have it properly affixed on a dish from DirectTV or Dish Network. Winegard makes one sold on Amozon too, which is also very good quality. The mount is S shaped to help antenna level well.

Excellent Reception even in Bad Weather!,

This review is from: Winegard GS-2200 Sensar III Amplified VHF/UHF Antenna System (Electronics)
After doing much research on antennas I bought this one over my other choice the Terk HDTVO, and I'm glad I did. I was skeptical because of the color code (as listed on antennaweb) not being clearly defined, the different distance ratings on several websites, and the directional or bi-directional terms. I live in a suburb of Daytona Beach Fla and I get excellent reception, even in really bad weather this antenna didn't miss a blink! I get all the major networks and a total of 36 different channels, 90-95% signal strength on all channels available in central fla area, all of the blue and purple coded channels on antennaweb are coming in good, they are all coming from the Orlando direction and the farthest away is 36.5 miles.and only in the morning and evening I get a couple channels from Tampa and West Palm Beach!
I mounted it in my attic (single story home) at the highest point, then I split the signal to 3 rooms and then split it again in the living room to 2 different converter boxes so that I could record one show while watching another ( I hooked up a second amp in the living room before splitting it again) and the reception is still at 90-95% on all channels. I mounted the antenna outside on our old satellite bracket on the roof and mini mast (pole) just see how it would do and the signal isn't as strong as inside the attic but still came in ok, but there are 2 large trees in front of the signal path where i tried it. I did find that the higher the antenna is in my attic the stronger the signal strength is. This antenna is lightweight (only 5 lbs) and very easy to install and deal with, I chose this one because I was afraid the Terk would be harder to maneuver around with in my attic because of the wider and bulkier shape, and it saved me money too, the only down side is it doesn't come with a mast to mount on but it does fine in my attic and is not out in the elements.

I was in the electronic Business for about 20 years. Winegard antennas are the best of the consumer grade.Just wish the picture was correct on Amazon. The picture includes a DS-2(2)000 antenna mount. That in NOT included. So you will need an external pole or find a good spot in an attic or closet. All will work. In my case, TV transmitters are about 40 miles away or a bit less. Over flat territory so YMMV. The nice thing about Winegard antennas, is they are an American assembled product. The antenna wings are powder coated and the plastic covering the electronics is UV protected and will last for decades. I have both the 1100 (non-amplified) and the GS-220 II and III. All work, but the series III seams to be rock solid in our local area. I did try to use an RCA product and did work for the UHF channels but not very strong. This antenna bumps up about 20% and snags VHF as well. As long as you understand that the mounting pole is Not Included you will be happy with your purchase!

I canceled our Comcast cable (except for internet) and put this antenna where our very old satellite dish used to be. It's up high, on a mast on our 2nd story roof. It doesn't look crazy like many other antennas. One key thing to know is that it's directional. It works great for us. If you need to receive broadcasts from many directions you may want a different antenna. But for us in San Jose where most everything is broadcast from Sutro tower in San Francisco it's great.
I aimed the antenna at Sutro tower ~40+ miles away in San Francisco and we get all the major channels (ABC, CBS, NBC). It works really well. This antenna has an amplifier that plugs in where you connect the cable to your digital tuner/TV and it helps. Overall I like it a lot. It also works fantastically with our TiVo HD. We can record two shows at once while we watch a recorded show.

I live in hilly North Atlanta outskirts in Cumming, GA. I'm 25-30 miles away from all the stations according to antennaweb. All of them come in crystal clear. I have not had any poor reception yet. I'm down in a valley surrounded by hills too, and was worried if I would be able to get signal. I'm very impressed with this antenna. From what I read most antenna's only get UHF. NBC in Atlanta is broadcast in VHF and it comes in great. Right now I have this antenna in an upstairs bedroom, I plan on mounting it in the attic as it seems to work great indoors. I'm running the cables with RG-6 cable as reccomended by various blog sites for the best reception.

Excellent antenna. I installed this antenna on my roof and I receive every station from Chicago, even Channel 2. Although, depending on the day, sometimes channel 2 comes in and out. It was very easy to install and it's low profile makes it look neat from the ground. I even split the signal to 3 different rooms without the use of a distribution amplifier. The pre-amp is enough to give signal strength to my 3 rooms. I highly recommend this product. I live in Schererville Indiana and I have a friend who has the same antenna in Valparaiso. So, if you live in these locations and wonder if this antenna will work, it will.

Bought the Winegard for a suburban Houston, Tx. location about 25 miles from several antennas. Previously used indoor, partially amplified rabbit ears w/out cable and the reception was awful or nonexistent. I went to antennaweb.org and researched the broadcasting antenna locations and mounted this antenna about 10' high (using a J tube), and facing the general direction. Reception on already received stations went from about 50-70% to about 90%, and several stations that I could never get (PBS) are now at about 90-95% signal strength with few dropouts.
One note: since most of our broadcasting antennas are within 3-4 degrees of one another this directional antenna worked great. If your stations are scattered geographically this might not work as effectively for you. Given my installation and station location this antenna is 100% solid and well worth it.

I am in first floor (6 floors building, NY forest hills) back face to TV station. I install it outside of my window.
I get nearly all stations with very good level. Only one 63.1-5 cannot receive. It has very strong direction. I put it face to sky not like normal position. It is better than TERK HDTVO (only receive some of stations unless I put it on the roof) The HDTVO dead after 1 year due to amplifier failed. it is not easy replace it on the roof. But put outsiade of window I can replace it at any time. |
