Good Balance Between Size, Sensitivity, Directionality and Cost,

This review is from: Winegard HD-6000 FM and HD Digital Antenna (Electronics)
When I replaced my old analog FM tuner with a new one that receives HD, I was not satisfied with the signal strength and quality that I was getting from HD via my indoor dipole antenna. It was time for me to upgrade and this was the solution.I chose this antenna because it has a reasonable price, is a classic Yagi design and is light in weight. I live in a two-story house, but mounted this antenna above the gable of a single-story addition. Because I live about halfway between New York City and Philadelphia I installed a rotor, so I can aim this antenna in different directions from inside. My installation places the antenna about 20 feet above the ground. I was prepared to mount this antenna higher if necessary but it works just fine where it is. Since this antenna is lightweight and has little wind loading, no guy wires or special bracing were necessary. I have posted a photo of this installation on the product page. My reception has been excellent. I can clearly receive not only all of the FM stations in New York City (about 60 miles away) and Philadelphia (about 55 miles away), I can also receive many other FM stations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. At some places on my tuner's dial, I can rotate this antenna and pick up more than one station on the same frequency from different directions. Thus far this antenna has survived ice storms, several New Jersey winters and a hurricane and is still going strong. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase.

Great FM signal Reception,

I recently bought a Boston Acoustics Horizon tabletop radio (love it) and thought I'd add an outdoor FM antenna to peak out the performance. Good reception turned into great reception. Money well spent.
I don't have a local HD radio station in my area with programing I care for so I haven't bought an HD radio tuner yet so I can't comment on HD reception. I may take the plunge, buy an HD radio tuner and see if this antenna will pull in the stations I'd like to hear in HD. I know that for regular FM reception this is a good antenna and works great for me.

OK Small Antenna,

I am using this product to receive a distant FM station, and it is works just as expected. I don't have a lot of hope for long-term survival of this item because it seems a little "lightly" built, but for now it's fine. For those considering an FM antenna, there is no substitute for a good, outdoor antenna if you have the freedom to install one. It will make your FM reception far more reliable than just using some sort of indoor antenna.

Upgraded to this from a stock wire dipole on a Sony XDRF1HD. I'm 30 miles north of the city and was getting only about 70% of the HD Signals on the wire, which is more to the credit of the Sony's sensitivity than anything. I installed the Winegard in the attic and I'm running 30 ft of coax to the receiver.
The difference is like night and day. All of my market's HD channels now come in perfectly. I've got the antenna pointed south and I am also picking up the bigger analog signals in another market 70 miles away! Overall, I am quite happy with the performance I am getting for the short amount of money spent.

Very good outdoor antenna for improving FM reception. It's directional but not so much that you can't receive stations off to the side of the antenna. It's not super sturdy; I had to replace it once because of damage from wind and ice, but for most applications it's a nice antenna and definitely worth the price!!

I have a radio and small TV with a HD converter box in my garage/shop. I was looking for a small antenna to install in the attic to improve FM and HDTV reception. The FM reception is more important to me as I am usually listening to the radio while I work on things. This antenna worked perfectly. Being an inside installation, I screwed a short length of PVC pipe onto a cross brace at the peak, and mounted the antenna on the bottom of it giving me plenty of clearance for the elements. The out of town FM stations that I used to get a lot of static on are now coming in very clear. HDTV signals are very finicky and it took a lot of time re-positioning the antenna and the elements to get decent reception on all of the channels, but it is still much better than the TV top antenna I was perviously using.

I wanted an inexpensive antenna to get better FM reception at work; this fit the bill perfectly.
With the standard dipole inside wire I could barely get a decent signal out of any of the local stations without having to constantly move the antenna around. This, of course, is typical. I expected an outside antenna to work better. What I did not expect was how much better. My reception now is amazing. From my location in Southern Los Angeles, I get every Los Angeles FM station -- analog and HD -- perfectly and with 2-3 times the analog signal (according to my old Pioneer receiver). I also receive the San Diego stations when the weather is right -- also amazingly clear. Best money I've spent in years. Highly recommended.

I've been trying my hardest to get my 3 favorite radio stations to all work at the same time. Two of them are in my city (one of which is like 2 miles away) but the other is like 60-70 miles away so it's a tough one. This antenna seems to be getting all three with minimal static right now. My only complaints about it is it's kind of large and wasn't packaged well. One of the antennae was bent but they're thin so I just bent it back. As far as the size, I suppose that's to be expected with an outdoor antenna but I was hoping to mount mine to my apartment balcony, I guess I'll have to get creative...
EDIT: Ok I've been using this antenna for a few weeks now and have actually had to mount it twice. I mounted it to the ceiling of my patio but mounted it near a wall which allowed for no rotation. I soon realized that some adjustment is required so I relocated the antenna closer to the center of my patio ceiling. Now I can rotate the antenna a full 360 degrees to maximize reception. I have to adjust it every once in awhile, for some reason my radio stations will just start getting static-y but a few adjustments on the antenna and it's back to normal.

This is an excellent outdoor antenna for analog FM stereo or HD Radio reception. The price is right, it's a small antenna (for an outdoor type). I bought a Radio Shack 3' Tripod mount roof stand for the antenna. Rather than, use a steel mast, I bought a 5' length of 1.25" white PVC pipe to use as a mast (saves $20). It's stiff enough to withstand high winds, and the Winegard antenna doesn't have much wind resistance. Properly aiming the antenna toward the transmiter tower minimizes multi-path distortion (reflections) that adversely affects both analog FM Stereo and HD Radio. Although HD Radio is more resistant to multi-path effects.
