Works best over peak February 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
This would be better if one leg was adjustable so you could mount it on slopes, but as long as you center it over the peak, it works fine.

Note that there's only one way it will fit or else the pivot pads on the bottom won't line up right. This is not mentioned in the instructions.

Instead of buying the official mast with expensive shipping, simply go to your home supply store and get a length of 1-1/4" electrical conduit (EMT), it's the same gauge (16) as the better masts and 10 feet is only about $8.

Good Quality Antenna Support December 12, 2009

This is a well made mast support for the price. For a home made DB8 style Antennas Direct DB8 Multidirectional HDTV Antennalong range HD antenna I installed it straddling the ridge of a 20x24 foot outbuilding. It took some fiddling to get the mast plumb; the geometry of the tripod and the roof ridge (I think the roof is 6/12 pitch) made visualizing this installation a bit confusing but once I got it up there and moved it around it was fine. The tripod feet swivel to adapt to the roof pitch and screwing them down made an even tighter fit.

The one difficulty in putting one of these up is the necessity of screwing it into at least two rafters in order for it to be sturdy. Most roof sheathing probably won't provide enough of a bite for the screws (which aren't included---I think I used 2.5"x5/16" lag screws) and would make for a dangerous setup. As it turned out I wasn't able to get the position on the roof I needed (for HD reception) where there were rafters underneath, so I had to put up some 2x4 braces between the rafters inside the building. If you're working in an attic this probably won't be too hard to do and it provides a very strong support. You also need to use "pitch pads" or something else that provides a seal between the tripod's feet, the screws, and the roof shingles. Once it was lag screwed into the braces it was rock solid.

Lastly, getting some help to put this up is a good idea. I did it myself but since I needed to get at the roof from both on top and underneath I had to go up and down the ladder far too many times.

Great product April 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I use this while camping and it works great. So much easier than hauling the dish in a bucket of concrete! It's very sturdy and I also draped a bag of sand around the brackets in the middle for reinforcement and it has withheld very strong winds. It was so windy at the campsite a couple of days ago that two roadblock barricade sawhorses were knocked over, but the satellite is still standing! Would highly recommend for campers.

I would have easily given this product 5 stars if it had come with installation instructions, maybe it was an oversight, or maybe they just don't include them, I don't know. Read more

This is for Flat Roofs Only
If you don't have a Flat Roof dont' get this. The legs are not adjustable and are all the same length. I'm returning mine. I don't know what I will get to use now.

Tripod
This tripod is of solid construction, and works as it should. I would have given it five stars had it included the mounting bolts and washers.
