Among The Best In Jazz,
This review is from: Winelight (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorite jazz albums and one of the few LPs I could easily tolerate listening to despite the surface noise and hisses, until I finally purchased the CD. Like a fine wine that lingers lightly on the palate, these mellow melodies enrapture my spirit and make me feel a bit light-headed whenever I listen to them. Grover Washington plays the sax effortlessly, making the notes sound as smooth as silk. Never sour, glarring, or over-bearing, his musical notes wrap one in a warm afterglow--long after the melodies have ended, the magic lingers on. If you like mellow jazz, you can't miss with this album.

Truly Classic Smooth Jazz,
By
This review is from: Winelight (Audio CD)
There are certain pieces of work that must be included in any decent music collection no matter what your taste in music. We usually refer to these as "classics". "Winelight" is one of those. A delight from beginning to end! More than just fine musical workmanship and technique, Mr. Washington captures the soul and essence of each melody. I first owned this album on vinyl, then moved to tape, and finally CD. Put this album on when you are feeling mellow and want to find a content mood.

Exudes Hypnotic Brilliance,

This review is from: Winelight (Audio CD)
It would be criminal to say a word wrong about this cd or to give it anything less than five stars. This is seriously good stuff and one, in my opinion, for the history books. This album is born of Heaven where now, very regretably, Grover resides. The music exudes sheer brilliance and its totally hypnotic, you want to listen to it time and time again. If your passionate about Grover Washington this is the one cd you HAVE to own!

THE "new-age" sax man,
By
This review is from: Winelight (Audio CD)
I've always said Grover Washington Jr could teach Kenny G how to play sax. He's smooth and mellow; never pushing his instrument but making his presence known, you know what I mean? This is an easy pop-jazz album; not ordinarily my favorite kind of jazz, but an absolute standard nonetheless. You'll hear Bill Withers (remember him?) singing on the only track with words, "Just the Two of Us". Good background music for that romantic dinner, even after 25 years.

One of the most beatiful jazz albums ever made.,

Many will probably argue with me, but this album is absolutely radiant. There is so much love and romance contained and it is displayed in every note played. Mr. Washington plays with great technique. This will remain to be one of my favorite albums of all time until the end of time.

Let if Flow,

Growing up in Philadelphia, we were awestruck at the abilities of Julius Erving very frequently. I think Grover captured his playing style perfectly with "Let It Flow (For Dr. J)". I can't think of a better representation of an athelete through a song than this. This album flows throughout. A must have for fans of Grover Washington Jr. who indeed left us too early!

I purchased this album back in 1980 on vinyl. What a buy - I used to play this album over, and over, and over!! I really believe that Grover Washington Jr, and the recording of this album, Winelight, was the beginning of the "Smooth Jazz" genre. Thanks Grover, rest in peace.

I bought this tape many moons ago and wore it out just as many moons ago. I used to drive to Yosemite and San Francisco on weekends and Winelight was my companion on those trips. Grover was and still is the best to listen to.

This is one of those albums we simply WORE out ! We had to have a copy for home & one for the car. The whole family liked it ! One of the childhood memories from the early 1980s - my daughter loves this music as much as her parents. We've never replaced it - perhaps it's time.
