5.0 out of 5 stars THE book on South American wines.
Not only is this book as comprehensive as one would hope with respect to information and detail but it is also a lively read.

Waldin has clearly mastered his subject. In a world of 'celebrity' wine writers it's very reassuring to come across one that has actually been to the places about which he is writing. Waldin is obviously not a writer to 'toe the line'...

3.0 out of 5 stars little disappointed
Too much information in my opinion: I would have preferred the author to give less info regarding the different producers, using the saved space for guided tastings on affordable everyday bottles as well as a few exceptional bottles and so on... this when I am a beginner/amateur... if one day I will ever become an expert I could give 5 stars to this one

Waldin has clearly mastered his subject. In a world of 'celebrity' wine writers it's very reassuring to come across one that has actually been to the places about which he is writing. Waldin is obviously not a writer to 'toe the line' and it is clear that he isn't merely a mouthpiece for one of the larger chateaux or wine 'conglomerates'.

The addition of some wonderful photographs and detailed maps only enhance what is a must have for any serious or even amateur wine buff.

I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the book. Although beautifully illustrated with maps and gorgeous pictures by Jason Lowe, I have the feeling Waldin wasn't able to go as deep as expected when presenting the producers and wine regions of South America. I might be biased by my expectations, but this is one of the few reference-books on South-american wines and it feels much more like a touristic guide...
