5.0 out of 5 stars A great keyboard for kids
We got this keyboard for my son for Christmas. He has really enjoyed it. The microphone is a bit difficult to use (you have to have your mouth on the microphone to get it to work) but everything else has worked well. The scratch pad makes record scratch noises when turned one direction and makes "boing" sounds in the other. It shows the notes as you play and it has fun...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great but...
We got this for our 4 year old's birthday. She loved it! It was the hit of the party. All of the kids needed a turn (and yes each put the microphone in their mouth).

All was great until the first child picked it up ... and dropped it. Immediately the left speaker was out. A couple of drops later, the right cut out and the entire thing was useless. We were...

It shows the notes as you play and it has fun graphics that go along with the pre-programmed songs. Ours even came with batteries. The only thing we have had issues with, was our son drooled on the keyboard while trying to use the microphone (he puts the microphone in his mouth to get it to work) and the keyboard stopped working. We let it dry out for a couple of days and it works again.

All was great until the first child picked it up ... and dropped it. Immediately the left speaker was out. A couple of drops later, the right cut out and the entire thing was useless. We were very disappointed. Eventually I opened it up to see that the wires were all severed.

My advice, either open the keyboard up and duck tape the wires or bolt the keyboard down so that it does survives normal wear and tear (associated with a 4 year old).

I'd say this keyboard is of average quality for toys in this price range, and my 2 year old daughter does enjoy playing with it. However, I am disappointed at the actual "keyboard" aspect of the keyboard. All the bells & whistles are nice and entertaining for a young child, but I had hoped to use it to eventually introduce her to very basic music notes, chords, etc, and it falls short here.

It supports four-note polyphony (i.e. can play a chord made up of up to 4 notes), but sometimes the resultant chord is inaccurate. Let me be clear, I'm not saying it's out of tune, or that it sounds cheap, I'm saying it's outputting the wrong 4 notes (e.g. a major chord will sound as if it's a minor chord). If you press the keys in a different order (but pressing the same 4 keys nonetheless) then it will produce different chords. I realize this is a $30 child's toy, and I don't expect it to sound like a professional keyboard (it doesn't), but I would expect it to get basic notes and chords right. My old Casio SK-1 from the 80's got the notes right, I think this one should too.

So, for now I consider this toy not much more than a fancy "noise maker" with a mic on it.

I bought this item for my two-year old who loves music, but both my five and eight year old are enjoying it too. I have looked at other keyboards in this price range for little ones. This one is a great value.

This keyboard is bright and colorful and very durable. Right now my 3.5 year old seems content to just bang on it, but I think he will grow into it. The only problem is the microphone (which he loves) -- you have to be very close to it to make a sound. But overall, a good basic keyboard. (I am not much into commercialized or character themed toys, so this one was perfect. It is a different color than in the photo, though. It is red and blue.)

We are generally satisfied. The microphone does not disconnect from the unit which was disappointing and it is not very easy to use. The sound is good and the variety of options for rythums and songs is good.

The kids really love the microphone attached to this keyboard. they love to make up their own songs, mix their own beats and sing along. Unfortunately, the record portion only allows them to record the keys the hit on the keyboard and not their voices.

My 1-1/2 year old has dropped it several times, thrown it against the wall and it is still working just fine. Overall a good buy.

I bought this keyboard for my daughter's second birthday. It came securely packaged and looked just as I expected, except for a few color differences. Batteries were included and already in place, which I appreciated; I could test it immediately and my daughter could play with it even before it was taken out of the easy-to-remove packaging.

The keyboard features a surprisingly large number of different instrument sounds and dance-style rhythms for a young child's toy. The turntable is a fun feature, as is the microphone; the latter sounds a bit fuzzy, but that could be because kids tend to put their mouths directly on microphones instead of simply near them. There is a wide range of volume control, which is nice for parents. We haven't had any qualms about this product's durability.

My daughter loves this keyboard; even my two other kids, boys ages nine and ten, enjoy it. This was a very satisfying purchase, especially considering the reasonable price, and I'd recommend it to anyone whose child enjoys rhythm and music!
