Wing Chun lesson at it's best,
By
This review is from: Wing Chun Today by Jason Lau Vol. 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This release contains a ton of information about Chum Kiu, rolling hands (basic chi sao), Wing Chun concepts, theory, and ideas. Practicing the basics and looking for the details is stressed, for it is the basics that the foundation is created on. There are points in the video that show common mistakes and thier corrections, as well as an excellent example of how the Chum Kiu should be performed. Wing Chun is a thinking mans art, not a haphazard style. With this video (on top of the previous one) you can see how the style builds upon itself in a logical progression. I'd recommend this video to any serious practitioner of Wing Chun. I am already looking forward the the next video in the series.

Not useful for practitioners,

This tape contains a very slow pace elementary illustration of Chi Sau for most of the tape and towards the end of the tape a quick run down of the Chum Kiu form without much explanation. I am one of those that don't believe you can learn martial arts by just watching tapes. And for those of us that learn it from a sifu, this tape does not offer anything extra or inspirational. I would recommend the series done by Augustine Fong instead which runs through the forms as well as giving you demos of what you can do after mastering all the techniques. Besides, I found the cadre-dressed robot-like students that do the demonstrations a big turn-off.

Another great instructional video from Master Lau and his students in Atlanta Georgia. The only thing that disappointed me was the length of the video. Forty five minutes was a bit short, but the quality and amount of information Sifu Lau packs into every minutes of this instructional tape certainly makes up for it. Look at it this way, I've seen other tapes that are close to or over $100, over an hour long and the video quality and information it supppose to contain REALLY [STUNK]!!! However, with Sifu Lau's video you definitely get your money worth. But hey, don't take my word for it, pick one up for yourself and check it out.

Proper Execution of Drills,

This review is from: Wing Chun Today by Jason Lau Vol. 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The content in volume two was excellent. It was more in depth than volume one. It emphasized the proper way to roll hands and demonstrated drills to learn chi sao effectively. The shifting drills were explained very well in relation to shifting and moving while maintaining the centerline, and keeping ones' entire body as a unit. As in volume one, the execution of the second form was superb. I highly recommend this video as a training tool for the any student of Wing Chun.

I like the way they performed uniformly like a robocop. and set an example for other martial arts opponents like karate. should also try to give example to other martial arts style ,jujitsu, aikido, judo, wrestling, boxing, samurai etc. but did try wing chun style to my jujitsu opponent and it werks!.never try on the ring yet but I heared someone tried in Ultimate fighting championship ring men its a bloodbath in there I won't go that far! I try if i can get to pride instead.every friends of mine was very suprise that I become sharp and smart, sensitive after I show them this style is like I evolved in to a new warrior version did'nt tell them where I learned it. haven't try to spar with a huge muscle opponent yet maybe soon will try.......626-2731777v/mail glim@asia.com e-mail address .see picture.com log my name . |
