5.0 out of 5 stars This game is simply amazing:
Like my title suggests, this game is simply amazing. The gameplay and graphics are melded together in a game that will surprise and amaze you. The first noticable quality of this game is the amazing graphics, done in almost full 3d! This game is a port of a PC game, and dare I say it, the graphics on the GBA are fairly similar. 1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in Rating
I just received this in hopes of giving it to my son for Christmas. I should have known not to buy a gaming product with "Rate Pending". Upon receipt of this game, I find that it is rated "Teen" and has warnings of Mild Violence, Mild Language and of all things "Use of Alcohol". Why is this necessary in gaming??? It is illegal for teens to use alcohol, so why should the...

Gameplay doesn't make the game however, and it's the arena of gameplay where this game shines. The game is a blast too play; you have 48 missions, several ships, dozens of weapons, and a superb multiplayer mode also. The missions range from short to lengthly, and beating them all is a ardous but worthwhile challenge. Playing the game is like watching and participating in a movie. The lengthy cutscenes from the PC version were cut out in favor of text boxes, but it manages to capture the same feel of the game. If you like Wing Commander, enjoy space/flight sims, or simply love well made and fun games, this game is for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars The only game of its kind on a handheld. Fun and good., June 1, 2003

I guess there's a reason no one has really attempted to put this kind of game on a handheld before -- the little digital controls make it tricky to move accurately. I gave it a spin on VisualBoy Advance on the big screen with my full size gamepad, and it's much easier to work with in that mode. This will be great with the Cube controller on the TV through the GBA player.

It runs at a SNES-like resolution, except with texture-mapped polygons, so it looks much better than the SNES Wing Commander games, which were based on WC1, not WC5 like this one. It looks almost as good as Wing Commander III on the Playstation One or 3DO system. Sound and music are fine, and the "story" is vintage Wing Commander, albeit told with static text screens instead of FMV or cartoons. This is pretty much just a "dancing bear" for me -- I'm so thrilled to have it at all, that I don't really care about form.

If you like space action games, and you want to play them on the road, this is the one for you. I'd like to see more games in this genre for portables.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good to see it resurrected, May 16, 2003

This review is from: Wing Commander: Prophecy (Video Game)
The Wing Commander series is one of the most innovative games in the history of gaming. The original WC was the first 3d space shooter. WC2 was one of the first games to include voice acting. WC3 and 4 had some of the first live action video in between missions, and are still seen as some of the best flight sims ever. Wing Commander Prophecy was originally released in 1997, where it maintained this popularity, but with a new foe and better graphics to it. In 1998, Electronic Arts set another first with WC: Secert Ops, the first game to be released episodically over the web.

Sadly, even after all of these triumphs, the Wing Commander franchise fell by the wayside, except for the movie. This is a port of WCP for the GBA, and all of us WC fans are truly ecstatic. The storyline is epic, the combat is intense, and the multiplayer feature will add a staggering level of replayability.

After all, 15+ million worldwide hardcore Wing Commander fans can't be wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing piece of work, May 29, 2003
This review is from: Wing Commander: Prophecy (Video Game)
Wing Commander Prophecy Advance is an amazing game and truly one of the most valuable games of my collection. Having played Prophecy for PC years back, I didn't expect to be so shocked and have so much fun with the new GBA version. For starters, the videos and carrier rooms are amazingly realistic and the 3D engine for the game is beyond what I thought the GBA was capable of. They have presented the story through talking heads along the lines of Zone of the Enders: Fist of Mars. While you're flying the communications screens are animated with full speech. They have managed to retain just about all the functionality from the original in this port. The game is tons of fun with some fifty missions throughout the regular campaign. There are many different types of ships and unique mission objectives. New features including several cooperative and deathmatch multiplayer modes for up to four people. This game is great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great use of the GBA hardware, December 13, 2003
This review is from: Wing Commander: Prophecy (Video Game)
I'm fairly impressed with this title. After spending a good portion of time in my youth playing the original Wing Commander titles, I had to pick this one up. The GBA version is based on the 1997 PC version of the same title, which was a masterfully created interactive movie with one of the best space combat engines ever put together.

Wing Commander was a very successful franchise comprised of five games plus a number of spin-off titles. While always strong on story, the first two games (published in 1990 and 1991) relied on animated characters to tell the story in between missions. The third title (1994) was the first big budget interactive movie starring Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker from Star Wars). The extravagance continued with Wing Commander 4, and Prophecy rounded out the series in 1997.

I didn't expect much from the GBA title but was very impressed with the smooth frame rates and its nearly faithful reproduction of the original's gameplay. My only complaint has nothing to do with the game or its design, but more to do with which Wing Commander game they ported.

The developers could have met with greater sales success had they ported the first two titles, as the back story would have been easier to implement on the GBA. While the original Prophecy story is here, the presentation of it could have been much better.

Bottom line: If you love space combat games you will love this one. I haven't tried the multiplayer option yet, but I hear it's terrific. You can't go wrong with this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost pushes the GBA to it's limits, June 20, 2003
This review is from: Wing Commander: Prophecy (Video Game)
A port of the PC hit, Wing Commander: Prophecy almost pushes the GBA to it's limits in terms of graphics and gameplay. In this unbelieveably tough mission based shooter, you get to fly around in full 360 degree movement taking on massive ships while also doing reconnaissance missions. Prophecy for the GBA is very similar to it's PC counterpart; the biggest difference being the obvious lack of FMV sequences that the Wing Commander series is known for (featuring actors such as Mark Hamill and Malcolm McDowell), but that is forgiveable considering the platform this game is on. The graphics are outstanding minus a few graphical glitches here and there and some blockiness, but other than that Prophecy offers some nice eye candy. The 48 missions are hard and the multiplayer deathmatch mode is more than worth playing. Controls can be cumbersome, which is the game's biggest flaw, but despite Prophecy's shortcomings, it is a near triumph in terms of the GBA's graphical and gameplay capabilities. All in all, if your an old time fan of the Wing Commander series and you own a GBA, your in heaven.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wing Commander: Prophecy (Video Game)
I have been reading all around the web, looking at screenshots, and watching videos for this game. It is going to be really cool. The graphics rock, they did a very good job trying to emulate the real game. It did realy good at E3, and I think it should sell good. I am buying it right away!

This game came out... maybe five years ago as the sequel/prequel thing to Wing Commander. It was a good game there and ddn't lack anything but controlls, it was one of those games that comes out and then hits the five dollar rack... not to say that they are all bad because this isn't, but I can't imagine playing it on a gameboy.
