Wing and Shot,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wing and Shot: gun dog training (Hardcover)
This is a fine book that covers all of the issues that will need to be addressed to train a fine gun dog. Mr. Wehle's method is easy on the dog with little stress and discipline. The book even goes into breeding which has brought Wehle such acclaim. This should not be the only book in your library especially if you are an amateur trainer like me but it must be in the library.

This book is for anyone that is interested in training bird dogs. Mr. Wehle writes in a way that leaves little room for misunderstanding or doubt. He addresses topics ranging from basic yard training to breaking gun shyness. It's a great book!

Wing & Shoot,
By Margaret M Hartz (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wing and Shot: gun dog training (Hardcover)
First of all Robert Wehle is the guru of the English Pointers. He gives a sense of creating a skill of training the dog from the inside to out. He is brilliant as are his breed dogs. I have one of his dogs named Maggie she is the best dog I have ever owned. She is every kind of a dog loving family, playful, obedient, loyal, strength, courageous, quiet a true class of a dog. This book is probably the best of the breed ever written. The fundamentals of training are broken down into common methods that every- one can understand. He is also selective to who purchases his english pointers. His pointers have more awards than any other breeder. So when you put breeder and book together he has to be the best choice of training books to invest in for the long run.USA

If you could have only one book on bird dog training this would be it. The book is as good today as when it was written. Beginner or old pro this is a must read.

I've heard so much about this book over the years but never read it because I'm not a hunter. Its actually a good read, you'll realize Mr. Wehle had great affection for his dogs. He trains his dogs with great discipline and compassion.

I met Bob Wehle 25 years ago and my Father obtained an Elhew dog 50 years ago. I became acquainted with Mr. Wehle and visited him both in NY and AL. What a fine gentlemen Bob was! He loved his dogs more then anyone I have ever known.
These feelings come through in this book. It is an excellent foundation for anyone wanting to have birddogs. It teaches both technique and philosophy. Also consider Bob's tape with the same title.
