A terrific read...a real page turner! By An Avid Reader,

This review is from: Wing Walking (Hardcover)
In Wing Walking, Harry Groome created a cast of characters that orchestrates a very sophisticated "whodunit" without the mayhem and murder. He has served up a dose of corporate intrigue in a well-woven, page turner of a tale, a terrific read that prompts one to hope for an encore soon.

I'm familiar with Harry Groome's well written short stories as a sportsman. But here he leaves smaller fish to go after sharks! And to powerful effect! This novel lays bare the bones of ambition in the pharmaceutical industry, a world Groome spent his whole working life in. The novel is sexy, sensitive, satisfying. With a compelling cast of men and women of character, and some with little of it. Fiction? Maybe yes, maybe no. But it is a lively tale that will grab you and make you want to ponder the situation more. A whole lot to get out of a book. - Brian Dillon, former Group Creative Director, Young & Rubicam.

Wing Walking Delivers,

Poet Harry Groome's first novel, Wing Walking, lives up to its daredevil title. It's the tense telling of what goes on in and outside the boardroom when corporations and the ego-driven individuals who run them clash. Author Groome, who spent years in the corporate world himself, does an artful job of taking the reader into that world and making it credible and compelling. A strong first novel that will have the reader eagerly anticipating Harry's next.

Walking with a great book,

"A taut experience `running with the big boys' and discovering how deals are made (and broken). Jump on a worldwide roller coaster ride which ends one tragic life, begins a potent romance for others, and tears a family and its business asunder as a result of the tormented decisions of an international cast. No telling where this ride will land as it roils between board rooms, bedrooms and living rooms on two continents. The decisions made (and sometimes regretted) embroil Royalty, Downing Street, and Wall Street and leave several dead in their wake. The rich are different than you or me...or are they?"

Best of all worlds,

Wing Walking is wonderful! So many novels about corporate intrigue are written by people who clearly never set foot in a boardroom and are portraying stereotypes. Meanwhile, executives who really know that world are almost never creative writers. Harry Groome is the rare combination of insider at the highest corporate level and a gifted novelist. He tells a really engrossing story. I finished the book weeks ago and am still thinking about it. Looking forward to the next!

Waiting for the movie on this one,

This review is from: Wing Walking (Hardcover)
Harry Groome has written a true to life story of family and financial dealings in the business world. Along with a little bit of board room antics and a hint of bedroom possibilities, there's great material here for a cinema treat. I kept asking myself who would play the key characters and that was the only delay in my read of this fast-paced and fun offering!

the recovery of business fiction,
By Matthew Hall (Jackson, WY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wing Walking (Hardcover)
Between "Wing Walking" and Joshua Ferris' "Then We Came to the End," perhaps we are seeing the recovery of good fiction written about business. This is a well-constructed tale of business intrigue that makes for a compelling read.

Harry Groome really nails the way business deals are really cut - not with spread sheets and discounted cash flow studies alone, but by the collision of hard charging egos. This is a superbly suspenseful drama involving business back biting, power plays, betrayal and lust. Weaved through this battle scene is a wonderfully romantic tale of two would be lovers that keep reaching out for each other. Until the last chapter you do not know how either the business battle or the love interest will resolve making this a book you simply can not put down. This is fabulous real life stuff.

Too close to reality to call this fiction, indeed. An inside view of M & A in Big Pharma, with a twist! Be ready to loose a night sleep with this compelling page-turner! A great read.
