3.0 out of 5 stars Problems with getting to the soundtrack music
The music was fine once I found the non apparent means of access. When the disc is inserted, the flash preview program comes up and there is no apparent way to the soundtrack music. I was about to give up when I brought up explore, right clicked on the disc title and clicked on run. The Real Player came up and I was able to listen to the soundtrack. Not nice.

this is my first review. usually i leave that to others; younger, more literate, more net verbal. but i received this cd yesterday and i have played it many times since and will play it more times today. it is beauty beyond. it is simply the best soundtrack or grouping of music that i have heard in a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Liked the Movie, Loved the Soundtrack, December 3, 2003

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit but it was actually the music which kept running through my head after the film. The CD had yet to be released at that time and it turned out to be better than I imagined. From the songs to the background scoring, each track "soars". If you buy one soundtrack this year, I highly reccommend this one. Actually, if for some reason you only buy one CD, you won't go wrong here either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Images; Beautiful Music, October 29, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Winged Migration (Audio CD)
I disagree that the soundtrack detracts from the film. I walk by a movie theatre nightly on my way home, and, not having enjoyed MicroCosmos at all, I was avoiding this film due to the association. One night however, I needed something to relax and unwind after a terrible day at the office. Within the first few minutes of Winged Migration, I was awestruck, and, various scenes made me gasp aloud -- the migration over the Great Wall of China was almost a fantasy painting, as is the aerospace view looking down on white geese crossing the Earth. I too, came away with a more respectful attitude to the planet, grasping at once that the few "ugly" scenes of the birds waddling through muck were the result of man, not nature. Accompanying all of this beautiful visual imagery was a soundtrack which at times was amusing, timing classical rhythyms with the mating dance of birds, at times restful and serene, and at times energizing. The music is not non-stop throughout the movie, but instead, fades in and out as a gentle reminder that music, too, is a gift, whether man-made, or bird-made. I came away from the film feeling as if I'd just taken a one hour stress break, and immediately wanted the soundtrack.

The music in this soundtrack is beautiful music, very serene and relaxing. And, if you listen to the words of the songs, you will understand what this music is all about. There is a song that sounds like a Tribe of Indians performing a ritual in honor of our feathered friends, the birds, which I found to be very unique. There is the sound of beating drums. All of the instruments are very good. You can even hear the geese in the background to some of the music. I also saw the movie. I plan to purchase it on VHS when it comes out on November 18th. This is definitely a movie and CD that everyone should have in their library. After you have seen the movie, you will have greater appreciation for the music that goes along with it. The birds in flight take us to a higher perspective on life and all of its struggles. If one misses the opportunity to listen to the CD or see the movie, they are missing out on alot. For after listening to the CD and seeing the movie, I feel it has greatly enriched my life and made me more in tune to nature.
You can also view the trailer to this movie at www.SonyPictures.com.
I recommend this very highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely AMAZING, November 2, 2003

The movie was what inspired me to seek out this sound track. It brings tears to my eyes it's just that touching - telling the tale of the trials and joys of bird migration through a wonderful compilation of songs - some have lyrics some are instrumental. There are sounds of geese honking and songbirds singing throughout, telling stories, singing poems - just wonderful. Its simply magical just as is the incredible strength of nature and migration itself.

"Tonight I will be by your side, but tomorrow I will fly, tomorow I will fly...."

Oh it gives me goose bumps just listening to it now. Every song is wonderful - they flow like water, with drum beats, flutes, and other instuments. I highly recommend the movie too!

I just saw this fabulous film about the migration of birds, and what it truly memorable for me was the hauntingly beautiful score. A perfect complement to the images but able to stand on its own musically. Ethereal, soothing, memorable music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent soundtrack to a gorgeous film, December 12, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Winged Migration (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is soothing and quite beautiful. Some of the cello writing is hauntingly beautiful. Coulais' imaginative, but discreet, use of the orchestra is masterful and fits the tone of the film perfectly. The vocal contributions by Nick Cave and Robert Wyatt are great. Only the chanting of adult men bothered me. The music that accompanies the return of the cranes has a few notes played by a woodwind instrument that always remind me of some notes played by either a woodwind or brass instrument during the "Et songe bien, oui, songe en combattant/Qu'un oeil noir te regarde," passage of the Toreador Song from Bizet's opera "Carmen".

I found this music to be lovely and heart-wrenching. It was a perfect accompaniment to the film, and it soars in its own right. Original, inventive, and soulful. I highly recommend it, whether or not you loved the movie.
