Book Description

*This is my old work. This will have errors. It's raw and the beginning of my journey into writing. Take it or leave it. You have been warned.*

How do you learn to love death when you’re so afraid of it?

What if the one person you love the most is taken away from you? What would it take to move on? Who would you run to? And what would it take to feel alive again?

Eve Cardwell has lost everything: her brother Marcus, her sense of security and her ability to believe that life is worth living. Another day drinking in the woods should be no different than any other day.

But, it turns out living life dangerously can be just that. And she should be dead.

He saves her. Saves her from herself, from everything she is trying to run away from. She will learn to feel again, even if it’s the last thing she ever wants to do.

How do you put the pieces back together? Would you run to the one person you should be running away from?

From the Author

Book 1
I would like to take a moment to explain how I even came up with this idea.
Back in 2009 I was being nagged by my friends to watch a really popular movie, and also to read the books. ( I am not one to jump on the bandwagon lol) Well I finally said what the heck, and watched the movie. Which then prompted me to read the series and I thought "Wow" someone took a simple idea and turned it into something amazing. And I was blown away by all the people so in love with it.
It had been years since i had written anything, I had become a Mom and grew up and just didn't have much time to write, so it went to the backburner. Until that day of course, I still remember sitting in my livingroom trying to come up with a story that was similar to these popular ones but totally different at the same time. And about an hour later I came up with a forbidden love type romance, that I believed was not like all the rest.
I also wanted to be able to write all my feelings on death and life, because writing has always been my way to get my stress out. So I came up with a character that could really do just that.
Well a couple months later when I had finished I really had no intent on letting anyone even read my writing, but I decided to anyways. Giving it to my Mother in Law I went about my normal life, that same day she called me back almost hysterical. She was all happy and giddy, and just gushing away about how great it was. To make this story short I gave my close friends a chance to read it as well and they all went crazy for it, and so this is why Wingless went from one book to five almost six and is still going strong!!

From the Inside Flap

Death is around everyone's corner, people try to run and hide from it, but it always catches up with them. Like a bad scene from a horror movie. Death stalks you like a lion, waiting for just the right moment to attack. You can run but sooner or later you'll trip and death will devour you. Did anyone know the secret to outrun death? No one that lived to tell about it, that's saying something right?

1.0 out of 5 stars Great idea poor execution May 21, 2011
By H. rudd
Format:Kindle Edition
This book had so many grammatical errors that it was very tough to read. Consistent and constant mistakes pulled me right out of the story. I don't know how many times "bare" was used instead of bear. The characters constantly yelled, screamed, or shouted at each other which was part of the telling rather than showing that this book was full of. There was a great deal of violence on the part of the main character towards the person she was supposed to love, to the point where it was abuse. The secondary characters took part in an equally toxic relationship. This is by far the worst book I have read lately. I would have stopped reading half way through, but I actually liked the "death as mob" theme. Great idea, terrible execution

1.0 out of 5 stars Ugh!!! Dont waste your time. April 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
First off, I want to state that this is the first book I have EVER rated 1 star. I started reading this book and was utterly repulsed by the way the main character acted. The more I read, the more I wanted to punch her!!! Seriously I HATED everything about her, and the reactions she had to most things went WAY beyond stupid. Truth be told I stopped reading this garbage a little more than mid-way through and I'm still mad at myself for reading that far!!

Eve is a willful and independent 18-year-old. One of her brothers, Marcus, the one she had felt the closest to, was murdered during a robbery four years ago; she has taken to hiding out in the woods with her best friend Vanessa and drinking in order to numb the pain. One day, while walking home, she fell into a stream and was pulled out by a tall, powerfully-built young man, who introduces himself as Ace. Ace turns out to be a nick-name (his given name is Evan); he is 22. Eve and Evan connect immediately and begin to see each other; much to the annoyance of Eve's other brother, Gray. In a short time, against her family's wishes, Eve moves in with Evan.

But Evan is not what he seems; his destiny is one of power and awesome responsibility, but of devastating consequences to those around him. His people have rules and regulations by which they live; they don't approve of relationships unless the couple is going to stay together - there is no option. Can the love Eve and Evan feel for each other keep them steady through the trials of Eve's adjustments to this life? Can Evan maintain his love for Eve against her rages and moods?

Overall I rather liked the story - unlike many stories with a basis of romance, the couple doesn't spend the whole book hating each other and fighting over stupid things. It is true that Eve is remarkably moody, tending to swing into blind rages, screaming fits and extreme melancholy under the slightest provocation, but then again, she is only 18. Eve also is often inconsistent - stating that people need to be nice to one another and treat one another with respect, and then completely ignoring her family's wishes, refusing to even discuss any situations with them and basically leaving them cold.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good read May 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
"...My life lesson was simple. Believe with your heart, fear is real, and no one ever is going to make it out by the skin of their teeth. Death may be scary, but there was one thing that death gave us, and that was blindness to not see it coming until it was too late. And now I believed in everything that I was told I was wrong to believe..."

My Review:

What a strange book. A story of love and a story of independence. A story of good choices and a story of bad choices. A story of loss and a story of gain.

We meet Eve, a headstrong, independent soul longing to live life on her terms. So much like the brother she lost, she longs to leave her controlling "perfect" family behind and strike out on her own. Alone in the woods after a drinking binge with her best friend, she meets Evan. Time reveals even more of the mystery that surrounds him and she is constantly thrown off balance as she traverses down a path unknown.

We follow Eve as she moves in with Evan and spends the next few months of her life learning more about herself than she ever thought possible.

I found the book difficult to follow at times. I felt I was in the middle of one conversation and the next sentence was a different conversation. I do not want to give away any of the contents but I feel this book is better suited for the older YA group than the younger set. There was a great moral aspect to the story in that we are all here for a reason, and just maybe, instead of fearing life, we need to live life. The book was a good read and I recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed July 24, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I think this is my first ever book review but I felt compelled to write. I bought this entire series to take with me on vacation. The topic was exciting and new and the books promised to be an entertaining read. I love supporting ebook writers and I have bought over 200 books since January. This series was tremendously disappointing. The main character never seems to learn anything. I'm in the middle of book 4 now and she's just as violent and passive as the first book. Things keep happening to her, she doesn't try to change them, then she gets angry and hits people or drinks too much.

The English is so terrible that the story is hard to follow. There are about 10 characters in all of the books yet two of them are named Mark? Really? It's hard to understand how the whole Grim business works. How do they know who to kill? Why are there warring factions? How do they get the money to spend on their lavish lifestyle? It's all very confusing.

I'm a two book a day person on vacation but it's taken me seven days to get halfway through book 4. I keep reading because I paid for the books and I'm hoping for a big epiphany. I don't think it's coming.
