Fun, Exciting, Sexy, Steele!,
By
This review is from: Wings (Paperback)
It's been ten years since I read this in full, but it remains one of my favorite lighter fare. I recommend it whenever someone is looking for a Summer read. The scenes between Nick and Cassie were extremely sexy and very memorable. I remember to this day the chill I got about Desmond, and how I felt reading the narrations about her flights. I've read quite a few Steele books, and this remains my favorite. I wish this had been made into one of the TV movies that were so numerous during the 80's and 90's. Highly recommended.

Tired of Steel's rich/famous characters? Read Wings!,
By Leigh (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wings (Hardcover)
I was reluctant to read this book (taken from my grandmother's collection) because it didn't sound as exciting as the plots of Malice, Lightning, Daddy, and Heartbeat. Boy was I wrong! While it did take a few chapters for my interest to really grow, I was soon hooked and couldn't put it down. For once, Steel's characters are not super-wealthy Hollywood stars or East Coast socialites. The characters in this book are honest, hard-working, and one can easily relate to them. This is a wonderful old-fashioned love story, and for the first time ever reading a book, I cried and cried! Sure there are the usual "twisted plots" and horrible things that happen to the characters, but for once, they are not wide out in the open and make you want to throw up. Steel silently woves them in and out of this book. I'm not one for characters with ridiculous age differences (an 18 year old falling in love with a 3 year old? Come on!), but I was rooting for Nick and Cass like I've never rooted for any character in any book or movie before. I was thoroughly disappointed that the book ended because I wanted to keep reading it more and more. I passed this book on to several friends who also loved it. This is not a tough read, but after chapter 3 or 4, you will be hooked!

A story full of hopes and dreams.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wings (Limited Edition) (Hardcover)
Wings was one of the best books I have read in a long time bringing tears of joy and sadness. In this story we follow a girl by the name of Cassie O'Malley who is filled with hopes and dreams. She has her mind set on a goal and won't give up until she reaches it even if that means breaking the rules. This story is very inspiring and I recommend it to everyone.

Danielle Steel's " Wings",
By A Customer
This review is from: Wings (Paperback)
This was one of the best stories that were ever written by the hand of a talented female author. The book takes place right after World War I and during World War II. The main characters, Nick Galvin and Cassie, are well developed and always were attracted to each other and fall in love, no matter how much Nick protests to it because he feels to old to do so and for her. The villain is cunning, ambitious, and hateful enough to want to ruin whatever happiness that both characters have. As one of Danielle Steel's fans, I want you to read this terrific novel and enjoy it's love story, historic events, and learn how women were treated in those times.

Great love story,
This review is from: Wings (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first Danielle Steel book that I've read. My mother-in-law had given it to me after she was done and I was impressed. I didn't realize that Steel's books are easy reads. This story was wonderfully written about a young girl who grew up on an airport. All she wanted to do was fly but her father saw it different. He felt that women belonged in the house, cooking, cleaning and having babies. The book followed a young girl through WWII and how she lived a different and exciting life during that time. Wings also has a little love story attached to it that was perfect. I will defiantly read more of her books, she has me hooked.

Just didn't care for the ending...,
By Catherine Jean Rose "Aye for Detail" (England 1097) - See all my reviews

I only read D. Steel when her novels have historical settings. This had great character development and well written storyline. I hated just hated the ending, however. The reader after having gone through the book pulling for Nick/Cassie has no closure. Where's the epilogue? It was just wrapped up too quickly and they were not given enough momentum to propel them to the next chapter in their lives. Disappointing. Otherwise this would have been a definite 5 star. Try Jewels or Mirror Image for similiar historic settings and well written storylines.

Not her worst, but not her best,
By pisces (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews

A novel that takes place at the turn of the century and follows one young woman's progress as the history of airplanes and aviation becomes popular in the early 1930's. This is not the best Steel has written. For one thing, it's horrendously repetitive. This is a novel for when you are very distracted and need to be reminded constantly of plot details. This is a novel for when you are not looking for anything too deep and heavy. The edition I read was a very repetitive 631 pages in large print. Steel obviously did research into the beginnings of aviation and airplanes and anyone who is interested in the history of air, flights, and transportation will enjoy this, provided you keep in mind it is very long and the writing doesn't have much depth. The closest author I can compare this story and Steel's writing to, is Fern Michaels. If you like author, Fern Michaels's plots and writing style, you will like "Wings" by Danielle Steel. Steel was, apparently writing more lengthy and involved novels back in the mid 1990's. I just wish the writing wasn't so cliched and repetitive.

I loved this book...,

It's so interesting to put yourself in someones shoes...someone so different than yourself. You have to imagine what it would be like to want things you can't have, in a different place & time. This story puts you there, it's a little slow at first, but makes up for it in the end.

As usual, Danielle Steel is at her best. This had to be one of the most fantastic books I have EVER read. She's brings you right in to her story as if you were living it. She makes you feel exactly what the characters are feeling, want what the characters are wanting and more!If you read this book, I can guarantee you WON'T be disappointed, except when you have to put it down. |
