Being an aging headbanger, it is not often that I can find a group new to the metal scene who knocks my socks off. I admit that I bought this cd never having heard of this band just because I liked the cover. When I got the cd home and heard it for the first time, I was blown away. Even my husband was impressed, and he is just as set in his musical ways as I am. I love all of the songs but my favorites are "Wings of Steel" and "Destiny". The vocal range displayed on this cd is really good, from the emotion of "Destiny" to the screams in "Mother Earth", there is something for every metal fan on this cd. I am anxious for the new Pegazus and can add this band to my list of favorites.

This australian band make a great heavy metal like the 80's. This is the best album of Pegazus, great songs, with a little influence of melodic metal. If you like true heavy metal you will not be desapointed with this cd. ...HAIL PEGAZUS...

Originally released in 1997, Wings of Destiny was the second album from Australian traditional/power metal band Pegazus. Pegazus was one of the early bands in the `90s to embrace the classic `80s heavy metal sound and incorporate the fantasy elements that so characterize the power metal genre.

Wings of Destiny is more or less a straight-up "bullet belts, spikes and leather" kind of traditional metal album, complete with blazing guitar, pounding rhythms, and soaring vocals. On the power metal side you get plenty of melody and lyrics (which I have to say are pretty cheesy) that deal with fantasy and horror themes. "Witches Hex," "Wings of Steel" and "Mother Earth" are highlights, but the whole album is fairly solid, though it doesn't seem remotely original.

It's not the most original album, and it doesn't hold up to what bands like Hammerfall and Gamma Ray were releasing at the time, but Wings of Destiny is still a very solid and totally enjoyable slab of traditional heavy metal. If nothing else, I have to give Pegazus credit for embracing this kind of sound when it was decidedly unpopular to do so (not that it's ever been exactly trendy).

Edition Notes: Metal Mind reissued Wings of Destiny in 2008. The reissue, which is limited to 2000 copies and comes in a (cheap looking) digipack, features digitally remastered sound and the 4-song 1996 Metalbound demo EP as bonus tracks. Metalbound includes covers of Black Sabbath's "Symptom of the Universe" and Judas Priest's "Victim of Changes," so this reissue is worth picking up if you're a serious Pegazus fan.

basically there debut. The nine songs on it are great tracks that
are a good mix of modern power metal with a 80's twist.
Pegazus are unique yet traditional, a great addition to your metal collection.

as a fan of different types of metal, Pegazus has found a home in my collection of music. musicianship is top-notch from these Aussies. maybe it's the water in Australia that produces awesome bands (AC/DC, Purged, etc). if you want quality from other power metal bands, try Iced Earth, Stratovarius, Rhapsody, Edguy, Narnia, and Hammerfall. there are other power metal bands out there that I want to try out too. Pegazus has peaked my interest.
