Excellent Account of Transcontinental Air Races, September 25, 2011
This review is from: Wet Wings & Drop Tanks: Recollections of American Transcontinental Air Racing 1928-1970 (Hardcover)
This excellent book combines lavish illustrations with a very informative text. It is filled with colorful anecdotes and personalities as well as fascinating technical information about the racing planes themselves.
The only negative aspect is that the book is also filled with the greatest number of typographical errors I have ever seen between between the covers of one book. Proper names are mispelled, " Goebel " vs " Goeble " , " decent " for "descent", etc.The frequent appearance of such things is really unfortunate, and will hopefully be corrected in subsequent printings of this otherwise outstanding book.

This review is from: Wet Wings & Drop Tanks: Recollections of American Transcontinental Air Racing 1928-1970 (Hardcover)
A must have book for the racing aviation enthusiast. Birch Mathews has captured the true spirit of American Transcontinental Air Racing. Dozen's of color photographs and hundreds of B&W's. Spectacular storylines of the machines an the men who pushed the sport of air racing to its limits make this book hard to put down from the minute you pick it up.
