Take flight with this lovely book,
By
This review is from: Wings: A Fairy Tale (Hardcover)
E.D Baker has always been a favorite of mine. And when I heard about this book, I knew it would be something special.
The book is in three parts, Tamisan's side, Jak's side, and then there adventures together. And it was. The characters were realistic (besides the whold magical thing) and very funny. There is a idea of romance with the two main characters, but Baker as always, doesn't fling them together, there love grows at a normal pace. This book was very daring, E.d is using Shakesphere charactes. A dangerous fete, but she did it. It even made me want to read "A midsummer nights dream", that is a high compliment for Baker. I laughed so many times in this book, and each character had their own unique voice. She gives unique qualities to magical creatures creatures that I had never thought of, but now can easilly imagine. Great book, and I am hoping for a sequal!

Tamisin has always recognized that she's a bit odd and doesn't quite fit in. Her appearance and the fact that she sees things others don't has always set her apart.
But she's shocked when she suddenly grows wings and is kidnapped and taken to a world where goblins and fairies exist. She'll soon learn that many things, even love, aren't all that they appear to be at first. From the author that brought you the fun-loving THE TALES OF THE FROG PRINCESS series comes yet another magical and enthralling read. The fantasy elements are strong in this book, but so are many modern influences. The mix is both inviting and up-to-date, and the tale engaging as Tamisin struggles to find her place in her new world. Although some solutions to certain problems may seem to come a little too quickly, WINGS is a wonderfully confident and enchanting read. Reviewed by: The Compulsive Reader

a good book that could have been great,

This review is from: Wings: A Fairy Tale (Paperback)
I really thought I would absolutely love this book I even had to wait 2 months to get this book through inter-library loan and as I started reading I found myself drawn into the story of a girl who on a full moon must dance and fairires come and join her! I also fell into the growing relationship between Jak and our main character and at about 100 or so pages just as it was starting to get really exciting with goblins coming in. the story stops and goes back to Jak and tells his past story and even goes through conversations we have heard before only with little twists here and there ! I found that it really dragged the book down and if I had not waited so long to get the book I probably would have gave up so after about another 50 to 100 pages of that it goes back to the story where the pace picks up and draws you right back in!It is a good book but could have been great if those pages were either condenced(Because some of the info fills in holes and is important to the story) or done in a different way because most people don't want to get to an exciting part of the book to have it pulled away to go back and repeat! I would reccommend but would warn about the part I mentioned cause it is a good book

charming story for fairy fans,
By
This review is from: Wings: A Fairy Tale (Hardcover)
Tamisin always knew she was different from the rest of her family, and it's not just her strangely pointed ears or her urge to dance in the middle of the night during a full moon. However, when what begins as a severe rash on her back leads to enormous real wings popping out, Tamasin learns that she's adopted, and in fact, part fairy. Jak, a new boy at school, is also not quite like everyone else, and soon takes Tamisin with him into the fairy realm, where she learns she's actually the half-human, half-fairy daughter of the fairy queen, Titania. The author cleverly uses A Midsummer Night's Dream as a starting point for this story, which is a perfect step up for girls who have outgrown the Disney Fairies franchise and who are fans of fantasies. The story offers an appealing mixture of humor and fantasy.

An Engaging Adventure,
This review is from: Wings: A Fairy Tale (Hardcover)
Tamisin has always suspected she is different from other girls. She has pointy ears and sparkling freckles and sees half-human beings no one else seems to notice. Or maybe she is just crazy. But when wings sprout on her back, any lingering doubt disappears.
In search for answers to the questions her parents don't have, Tamisin follows Jak, a mysterious boy from her school, into a parallel world where fairies and goblins live. Soon Tamisin and Jak are fighting for their lives while trying to solve the puzzle of her origins and the reason for the prize someone has put on her head. I found Wings to be an intriguing tale with sympathetic characters and fast paced action, even if the logic within the story doesn't always work--Tamisin is more upset because her parents have never told her she is adopted than because she has just grown wings--and, on occasion, the characters seem to act in a certain way because the plot demands it, but don't have a reasonable motivation to do so. For instance Tamisin runs into the sea of grass because she doesn't trust Jak. Then after meeting the Lamia, she decides she trusts Jak after all and goes back to him. But nothing has happened in between to make her change her mind. Yet, overall, Wings is an engaging story that will leave you smiling.

A sweet tale with fairies, goblins, and adventure....,

I recommend this book for all who love fairies and magic. I read this in eighth grade and loved it. I immediately read it to my youngest sister, who has a hard time reading, and she fell in love with the characters. I read Shakespeare and A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of my favorites. I love the comedy and the sweet moments in this book. When I read Jak's part when he met Tamisan for the first time, I thought it was incredibly sweet.

Not E.D. Bakers best work!,

I got this book is about a girl named Tamisan who is a little unusual. Then she finds out that she is a fairy and she is taken back to the fairy world by goblins. And she and a goblin named Jak fall in love with each other. It was good but when I was getting deeper into the book it was just boring. And I skipped to the ending and it seems like there is going to be a sequel. I got this for Christmas and I was so excited about reading it but the story was just boring and predictable. Its predictable because you know the main characters just fall in love with each other. Also you know right away that Tamisin is a fairy because the book kind of tells you right away. I think E.D. Baker could of done better than what she wrote. If you are starting to read books from her I would suggest reading the books from the Frog Princess Series its actually a good series and they are action packed and full of adventure and magic and not the same kind of happily ever after fairy tale.

I bought this book for my daughter and she absolutely loved it. It is a modern version of A Midsummer's Nights Dream by Shakespere. It is about a girl named Tamisin. Strange things happen to her.First, she saw goblins. A few years later, she dances with fairies under the full moon. Now,she has grown wings! She has a friend named Jak who knows something she doesn't. This is an exciting tale and wonderful for anyone who likes fairies.
