My interest in and love of butterflies really took hold after reading this wonderful and book. From the first paragraph I was transported to Ms. Brewer's world and on a journey through the eyes of a butterfly. Today my garden is host to her Monarch, as well as the Eastern Swallowtail, White Admiral and multitudes of other tiny butterflies and moths. Every time I see the Monarch I think of this book and the impact it had on my gardening style. Thank you Ms. Brewer for writing this poignant story about my favorite butterfly. It made me cry. I gave my copy to my son who shares my love of butterflies, moths and bees.

First read this in 1970 and now bought it for a friend with a "certified" butterfly garden. A beautiful story that humanizes the lead character, Danaeus and his short but brave and noble life. Expect to shed some tears
