5.0 out of 5 stars Great book from the Kensington Chronicles!
Lori Wick certainly is one of my favorite Christian/Romance writers, coming up to a close second to Dee Henderson. And probably my favorite books from Lori Wick are the Kensington Chronicles.

3.0 out of 5 stars Low point of the series
I really liked the rest of the series (a surprise for me), but this one couldn't hold my attention. I don't know what it was, but it just wasn't as good. I really only read this one to revisit Sunny and Brandon from the first volume of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book from the Kensington Chronicles!, January 10, 2002

Lori Wick certainly is one of my favorite Christian/Romance writers, coming up to a close second to Dee Henderson. And probably my favorite books from Lori Wick are the Kensington Chronicles.

"Wings of the Morning" is about young Victoria "Smokey" Simmons, captain of one of the fastest ship of the Atlantic, the 'Aramis'. When her father, the famous Clancy, had died and left her alone in the world, she asks God to give her strength. Three years have passed and Smokey begins dreaming of life away from the sea. She wants to have a home and raise a family. When she meets another sea captain, Dallas Knight, she believes that her dreams can finally come true. Dallas, also hopelessly in love with her, shares her dreams. But when a scheming and evil pirate comes into their lives, Smokey and Dallas' hopes for the future may come to an end. Will they have the strength to overcome these painful events and to trust themselves into their Father in heaven?

A truly marvelous tale taking place in the mid-1800s, "Wings of the Morning" will have you swept into a world of romance and suspense. I love the wonderful characters of Smokey, who is young and shy yet has great spirit, and Dallas, who will do anything to protect her. They are so real that it is very hard not to like them and to hope they have their dreams fulfilled.

The other three books of the Kensington Chronicles are "The Hawk and the Jewel", "Who Brings Forth the Wind", and "The Knight and the Dove", all of them filled with romance and suspense, plus they all are about people who love and honor their God. My suggestion to you is that if you have never read any of Lori Wick's books, you should start with these four books.

And if you are looking for other terrific Christian/Romance books, I recommend all books by Dee Henderson, including the O'Malley Series, "Danger in the Shadows", and the Uncommon Heroes Series. But be ready for suspense, intrigue, and mystery, because these books are filled with them!

5.0 out of 5 stars WINGS OF THE MORNING, April 15, 2001
By A Customer
This book really deserves more than 5 stars. It is off the chart!!! It is one of the best books I have ever read! The entire Kensington Chronicles series is fabulous. All of the books in the series took me places I've never been and knew very little about. But Wings of the Morning is my favorite. It is loaded with adventure, thrill, suspense, love and romance, and God throughout it all. I was learning Scripture while living a whole new life on the high seas. The captivation starts with page one and doesn't end even when the book ends. I highly recommend this book, and every other book that has Lori Wick's name on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A strong woman who graces the high seas as captain..., January 27, 2004

A wonderful, unusual story of love, adventure, and social graces in the 1800's. While carrying a unisex nickname and hiding behind men's clothes, Smokey is a beautiful woman... and a gift to all her know her, except the pirate who wants her.

Lori Wick makes places I have never seen and lifestyles I will never experience feel like home. So realistic is her story line that I can feel the bumps as the carriage navigates dry land, an unusual place for a ship's captain.

This book 2 of the "Kensington Chronicles" series is a must read! While a bit more enjoyable if you have read #1 (The Hawk and The Jewel), this `stand alone' book stands out on it's own. A new cover has been released on this 1994 book.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wings of the Morning (Kensington Chronicles, Book 2) (Paperback)
My sister first got me hooked on Lori Wicks work and Wings of the morning is the best of Kensington Chronicles! Dallas's love for Smokey is SO passionate and Smokey's free and wild personality is so unpredictable, it carries thrill through the whole book. When I finished the book I wanted to hear more about them and their life! If you want a cliff hanging love story, this is the one to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Lori Wick novel!, January 4, 2000
By
This is the first Lori Wick novel I ever read. And I've reread it *several* times since. (Even named my cat after the main character!) This whole series is also my favorite.

Mrs. Wick creates such intriguing characters, plots, and situations. You can visual what's happening as you read. And the love of God that flows throughout the book is just fantastic.

Two thumbs up (I'd give more, but that's all God gave me!) I wish Mrs. Wick would write more in this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful and exciting story, September 8, 1997
Of all of Lori Wick's books, this has to be one of my favorites. I love the character Smokey and how she captained her own ship. The scene where Smokey and Brandon fight a duel and she wins is my favorite, mainly because no one believed that she could fight so well. That's what I love about Lori Wick's characters. Each one has something unpredictable about them. Intriguing characters coupled with an engaging and interesting plot make "Wings of the Morning" a great book to curl up with and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars TEN STARS!!!!, November 12, 2011

This review is from: Wings of the Morning (Kensington Chronicles, Book 2) (Paperback)
Ohmygosh! Lori Wick has done it again. And to think that I almost passed over this series. I've read three of her first four series' and am SHOCKED beyond belief to admit that this is by FAR her best yet!!!

How anybody could give this a negative rating is beyond me. Her books are long and have several plot lines. It usually takes me awhile to get through her books, but I COULD NOT put this book down! I cried several times and my heart warmed at the love Dallas had for Smokey!!! The mystery was on the edge of your seat stuff - I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. Just when you take a sigh of relief that it's over, the mystery thickens and takes you into a whole different direction!!!

I cracked up over Smoky's fencing. I CRIED at what happened to her in the prison. I was so excited at the romance.

That's another thing - in so many of her books, the "REAL" romance starts at the end of the book (like it the Hawk and the Jewel), but in this one, it happened at around the first quarter of the book. I enjoyed all the shared innocent intimacies the couple shared!

I, of course, would love to know with whats-her-name (Dallas' old girlfriend). Maybe it said so in the epilogue and I just missed it trying to hurry and get it finished...

READ THIS BOOK!!! IT IS simply WONDERFUL!!!

Great story line, a bit suspenseful and you won't want to put it down! I love the history and research that went into this book about a brave independent woman with a man's job at a time in history when women simply didn't have powerful and high paying careers.

I am a very selective teen reader. I love the Kensington Chronicles! It talks about young women who are living their lives and then they find handsome and tall husbands who love them and love God. I would recommend this book for girls ages 13+
