2.0 out of 5 stars Fun missions, unpleasant DRM. May 25, 2012
Platform for Display:PC Download|Edition:Collector's Edition
The game is good but more action oriented than Simulator oriented. It was originally a console game and had little work done when ported over to Windows.
Keep in mind regardless of how you install this game (Steam, disc, whatever) you will be REQUIRED to install the YuPlay program in the background, which is another layer of intrusive DRM. It frequently has issues and will often lock you out of your game. If you install it more than 3 times you use up all your passes and thats it, cant play it any more.
After having issues with my OS, I ended up activating this game 3 times in a short period and could no longer play it.
There is no work around for YuPlay, I checked all the usual game-fix places. For a very low price its worth it to put up with the hassle, otherwise stay away. The gameplay isnt so awesome that you need this kind of nonsense.

It does support a wide variety of flight sticks and game pads.

4.0 out of 5 stars Game is good, has been given a bad rap May 28, 2012
Platform for Display:PC Download|Edition:Collector's Edition
I bought this game from steam and it did make me angry that I had to use Yuplay as well as Steam to play it. However, after a very few problems that were ironed out quickly, this game plays great and the graphics and sound are also very good. I think the game publishers are totally foolish to make a game that Must Be connected to the internet and all this stupid drm stuff that has proven time and again to only hurt the honest people who purchase their product. (mine and thousands of other opinions)
Anyway, this is a good fun game after you get everything working as it should, and I have read in the forums that Yuplay is only like a launcher and can be disabled. I might purchase this collectors edition, good price. This product would have been worth much more for a long time if it hadn't been ruined with drm, tied to Yuplay, andconnected to Steam.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game, long install (DRM) July 27, 2013
Platform for Display:PC Download|Edition:Collector's Edition
This is a fantastic WWII air combat game. The graphics are top notch (you'll need a fast comp with a ton of RAM to get it to run maxxed out, I'm running it on an i7 at 3.8GHz with 6Mb RAM and a GTX-580 Superclocked) and there's a lot of attention to detail. As far as the flight mechanics are concerned, if you're used to really accurate flight models (IL-2, Rise of Flight, etc) this one feels arcadey, but it's still a blast to play and works very well with a flight setup (force feedback flight stick, throttle, rudder pedals) and is also TrackIR compatible (a must for a flight simmer anyways). I didn't rate the game based on the merits of being an accurate simulator because I'd played it before, knew what to expect out of it, and really like the game just the same. Which brings me to why it only got 4/5 stars...

You pay for this game and are given a link to download it. You download it (only took me 1/2 hour to download on high speed internet), install it, and then you think you're going to set up the controls and play it right off the bat, right? Well, no. Choosing a mission tells you that you must be logged in to YuPlay, the game company's DRM interface. So I tell it to download/update YuPlay, install it, then try to run the game again. Now it tells me I'm not logged in (can't connect to YuPlay from within the game), so I get out of the game, have to create a YuPlay account, and log it in. Then I try to start the game again. Now that I try running the game while logged into YuPlay it tells me that the game has two critical updates I have to have in order to run the game. So I tell it to download them.

graphics are the best,it takes awhile to learn how to fly..takes even longer to learn how chase down your enemy..then you have to learn how to fight him..so all in all its a learning game but once mastered its a breeze and really cool..i have played for hours and only shot down 2 planes,haha..but its all good! the planes looks great and there's pilot chatter which gives it a realistic touch and the engine sounds are realistic too..a ton of control buttons which i reset every one to my own personal settings..great game

This game supports Track IR. This device allows for total immersion in the games that use it. That alone raises the value of this game by at least one star.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get yourself a joystick with LOTS of buttons... January 6, 2014
Platform for Display:PC Download| Edition:Collector's Edition|Verified Purchase
I purchased this during the Thanksgiving holiday sale, for peanuts, and it has reminded me that I've been missing a good WW2 flight sim. There are quite a few functions to control with the airplane, the cameras, the menus, the wingman commands, etc. So... you'll want a decent joystick with a POV and LOTS of buttons. I use the Logitech 3D Extreme Pro USB stick. It took me a good hour or two one evening to go through all of the functions and figure out how to map them to the buttons and the POV (hint: use combinations - hold button 7 and UP POV to put the camera in the cockpit, etc.). I've played through all of the training missions and started in on the campaign. The graphics are nice and I get that felling of FLIGHT that I've been missing for the last several years, since I played Air Conflicts and went through the entire game in just a few nights. I'm playing in "arcade mode" for now. It's challenging enough without making it be too much work (i.e. not fun). This game would be a good one for those of you who have the flight stick with the extra throttle stick + array of buttons. It runs great on my Acer V3-771G laptop with high detail... I like to hook it to my 42" TV for Full HD, big-screen goodness and some big stereo sound.
