Book Description

May 15, 2001
"Wings of Pride, The Story of Reno Air and Its People"

Whether you were lucky enough to be a part of the Reno Air story, or on the outside observing the tremendous impact the small air carrier made on the airline industry, this book will put you there.

Going back to 1989, Reno Air was only a dream for a handful of anxious investors ready to begin their quest. After many disappointments and delays, Reno Air finally took off on its inaugural flight on July 1, 1992. As you turn each memorable page, you will read about all the hard work and dedication from the many determined employees, who put their careers and their faith into this tiny piece of aviation history. You will read first hand what made Reno Air so successful, how it worked, and what went wrong.

Through all their struggles, the once Nevada-based Reno Air was one of the few start-up airlines that were actually successful. Throughout their seven-year history, Reno Air flew to nearly every state in the United States, and carried more than 30 million passengers into hundreds of cities in four different countries. Reno Air ended its seven-year run on November 19, 1998, when American Airlines bought the airline for $124 Million.

Flying high above the clouds with their classic design of green and silver lettering proudly etched across their fuselage, and the snow-capped mountains on the tail, Reno Air will forever be remembered by the millions of people who crossed her path. And for the heartfelt spirit of every employee, whose infectious energy spread quickly throughout the company, Reno Air would always be "the little airline that could --- and did."

"Wings of Pride, The Story of Reno Air and Its People," is a reminder of the success and impact Reno Air had on the world of aviation, and how such a small but significant airline could reach out world-wide and touch the heart of every city it served.

About the Author

TJ Martini was fortunate to have been in the first class of flight attendants for Reno Air, as well as on the inaugural flight on July 1, 1992. In 1998, she had a "mid-life" career change. Going from flight attendant to writer, TJ began gathering information and interviews for, "Wings of Pride, The Story of Reno Air and Its People." She left Reno Air in June 1999, just before the final transition into American Airlines.

TJ moved from Southern California to Reno, Nevada in 1958, with her father Joe Martini, an entertainer, mother Genie, an artist and homemaker, and her siblings; Carolyn, Michael and Marilee. (Little brother Joe came several years later.)

Credited with a number of magazine and newspaper articles, as well as ad copy, poems and lyrics, TJ has been writing for most of her adult life. She has written two other books (novels), and is in the process of designing a new website called JUSTFAITH.com, which will be used to encourage those in need. TJ makes her home in Reno, Nevada with her husband Gary, a marketing and public relations consultant, and her youngest daughter Kara-Mia. She also has four grown children; Michael, Dennis, Jackee and Ryan, and (at last count) eleven grandchildren.
