Book Description

Meghan's graduation gift is one that any eighteen-year-old would
dream of: traveling abroad to England. Her journey turns into more adventure
than expected when Meghan meets the mysterious Kiernan and accepts his
invitation to a secret club, hidden beneath the streets of London.

The eclectic dress of the club-goers is not the only unusual thing
she discovers in the Underground. Kiernan's father has developed a warped set
of rituals, and he targets Meghan as his next victim. Instead of the fun date
she imagined, Meghan finds herself imprisoned and in a fight for her very
survival.

Add Whispersync narration for only $1.99.

Review

"...I enjoyed the story, it was not an easy breezy story filled with happiness & sunshine - instead deep emotions & darkness. I read this book with an open mind & i was surprised to find a fantastic book. The book has many layers to it that need to be read to be understood. I could try explaining the book but to be honest i would not do it justice. I understand now why it received so many 5 star reviews. It was amazingly written & edited. I urge people to give this book a try..."

5.0 out of 5 stars A magical book and an addictive page-turner! May 26, 2012
By PamelaC
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just bought this book yesterday after reading the sample pages and immediately getting hooked on the story and needing to know what would happen next. I bought the book and spent the next hour immersed in a fascinating world of faeries, then got up early this morning and read straight through until I finished, it's that good.

College student Meghan thought she was going on a fun date with charming, blond-haired Kiernan and was introduced to a world she never knew existed....one that was impossible to walk away from. This is not the type of book I ordinarily read, but the storyline intrigued me, with the idea of twin brothers separated on their third birthday, one staying with his mother and the other going with his father to the dark world that he creates and rules over.

Without giving away too much of the story, I will share that there is a sweet love triangle here that is G rated and should appeal to all ages. This is also a well written and fast-paced story that races along. It's very difficult to put down and as the first book in a trilogy, it has a satisfying ending that leaves this reader dying for the next book.

This story should appeal to readers who enjoyed Twilight and other similar stories. The world of the Faeries is vividly drawn and the characters are likable, especially the boys grandmother, Selena and both Avery and Kiernan make for great heroes...Meghan isn't sure which one she likes better...and I'm not either, they're both amazing.

Highly recommend this, will be telling my twin nieces, who are 14 about it, and also my friends who are in their 40's...it really is a great story for both teens and adults. I predict that this book will do very well, and that the author will have a long and happy career ahead of her!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read, A Whimsical Romp June 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Wings of Shadow is sweet with a little bit of sexy, adventurous with a dash of thrill, romantic without being too sappy.

As an adult with a love for the urban fantasy/alternate reality genre, I was surprised how much I enjoyed and became attached to the older teen characters. Kyss does a good job introducing whimsy and magic yet manages to weave in Darwinism for an extra dose of credible world building.

Overall Wings of Shadow is a fun romp for adolescents on up to adults.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well-written, fast-paced, entertaining and fun December 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When I saw this ebook listed for the Kindle as FREE, the cover grabbed me. There was something about that midnight blue, the young man's gaze, and Big Ben in the background. I began reading in the early afternoon and was finished by evening. Wings of Shadow was that good.

Meg has taken time between graduating high school and entering college to travel on her own. Even though I find her need for independence admirable--as a reader it was not an intelligent decision, nor was her going off with Kiernan, a guy she hardly knows--and yet, I understood why she did these things because it was part of her character as established through her voice.

Blending the underground Tubes of present day London as the setting for the Dark Fae and the nature-covered rural world for the Light fae was a nice contrast of lifestyles and added color to the story. When main character Meg enters the secret world below the subway systems I could easily picture the gunmetal grays and blacks of the walls and clothing of the dancers; and when Wish presents his costumes to Meg, Avery and Kiernan, their rainbow colors popped off the page. Author Anna Kyss blends known faerie lore and adds her own twist. The Dark fae do feel the effects of the iron surrounding them but their leader, Kiernan's father, applying some Darwinian principles, has learned drinking human blood sustains the fae. The Light fae live off of nature, nurturing and sharing in what the earth creates, and they abhor blood drinking.

Watching Meg fight to survive in the world of the dark fae and then adjusting to life with the Light fae was a wonderful contrast to her character. Being attracted to Kiernan, then abhorring him for his father's treatment of her, sent Meg to the land of the Light fae where Avery befriends her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, I loved it! July 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
When I first saw the cover of this book I just knew I had to read it. It was so pretty and mysterious looking and coupled with the blurb I was already hooked before I even started reading the book. This book had an excellent plot which was highly unique and original, coupled with amazing characters that provided the story with a lot of depth. Once I started I didn't want to put it down until I was done.

Meghan's date with Kiernan takes her on a crazy adventure into hidden parts of London's underground tunnels where she meets lots of people wearing wings made from items ranging from metal to bike tires. The descriptions given of Meghan's first encounter with these "winged" people is just amazing, it would make a stunning scene in a movie or even a supremely intriguing drawing. No explanation is given for their strange attire but shortly after she is held prisoner by Kiernan's father where things only get weirder. I thought this book was going in one direction with the type of fantastic creatures involved but I was 100% wrong and couldn't even have begun to guess where the book would end up. I'd love to tell you more, but I don't want to give anything away.

If you love a good mystery/romance/magic and fantasy creatures then this book is a must read. There is also a touch of Darwinian science spoken about which I must say also fascinated me. Usually fantasy stories glaze over things and attribute everything to magic or a "just because they can" type of attitude, yet this story had real world science as a background for the "why" certain things were happening which in my opinion just makes for an even better story (but for those who hate science it was really only a small part of the book and it's written in a way that makes it very easy to understand). I absolutely loved it and cannot wait for the next book in the series. My mind is already trying to figure out what direction the next book will take.
