Book Description

August 1, 2002 Wingshooter's Guides
This is the 11th book in the wingshooting guidebook series from Wilderness Adventures Press, Inc. The book delivers everything there is to know about bird hunting in Wisconsin. It features over 90 detailed maps of distribution and hunting areas, where and how to hunt each species of game bird and their seasons. It also includes tips on hunting with dogs, and after a successful hunt, preparation and recipes for the birds.

This book also provides the reader information on 'fast facts', special regulations, and local outfitters and guides. Mickey and Roland also include insight to great food and interesting places to stay - including those that allow dogs and much more! So, whether you're looking for ruffed grouse, geese or eastern wild turkey hunting, this book is a must have for any bird hunter in the mid-west!

About the Author

Mickey Johnson moved to Minnesota in 1970 to hunt and fish, and to attend college. His current agenda consists of upland bird hunting, working with his dogs, photography, cooking, flyfishing and writing. He also guides for upland bird hunting, is president of the local Trout Unlimited, and raises funds for the Ruffed Grouse Society. He is the author of Flyfisher's Guide to Minnesota and a co-author of Wingshooter's Guide to Minnesota.

Dr. Roland Kehr lives in Brainard, Minnesota, "just a stone's throw away" from Wisconsin's fabulous ruffed grouse and woodcock hunting. He and his wife, Pat, enjoy life in the company of their three English setters. He does some guiding for ruffed grouse and woodcock. Most of his friends feel that he spends more time at planning hunts and hunting than he does at dentistry.

This review is from: Wingshooter's Guide to Wisconsin: Upland Birds and Waterfowl (Wingshooter's Guides) (Paperback)
I'm a fledgling hunter that lives in Wisconsin. As such I was excited to come across this book here at Amazon. Unfortunately the book description claims 'The book delivers everything there is to know about bird hunting in Wisconsin'. This is disgustingly untrue. Everything in this book is either generic ('Geese have dark meat') or is available on the web and in a DNR publication. Have the authors ever hunted in Wisconsin? Have they held a gun? After searching the book I cannot say. This book could have been compiled from anywhere by anyone with an internet connection. Oh wait that is not fair. One might also need a phone to get a current list of Waterfowl Production Areas.

As for the 'detailed maps' of public hunting areas - they are the PDF files from the DNR website.

Their is no excuse for a rip-off like this one. Why do I have to give it one star? I'd try to sell it used but I have a conscience.
