Format: Paperback
Most books about succeeding in business are by professional writers. This one isn't. The author is a senior executive who knows from personal experience what women face when they're serious about moving up in sales. Emma Morris has a blue-chip client list and decades of experience in the technology industry--a sector notorious for hiring pretty young things to sell to cranky IT guys, then passing over those same women when it's time to fill a leadership position.

This isn't a "tip of the day" book, and it doesn't offer advice about how to talk, dress, or take up golf to appear more competent. It's a solidly researched case for the contributions women currently make in senior sales roles, and a compelling argument for increasing that number. Interviews with 18 high-performing women offer perspective on what it takes to succeed in one of the world's toughest jobs.

Most books on leadership adopt a decidedly but unconscious perspective from a man's point of view. As a man myself that was what most struck me about this book; most men just do not understand the additional energy and effort it takes for a woman to take on high executive positions and how much harder they have to work to juggle the roles of executive, mother, family head and organizer as well as anything purely personal that they might also engage in. Emma Morris is a seasoned executive who is particularly knowledgeable about the issues involved in becoming a Chief Sales Officer. She has keen insights into why women often aren't put into this role despite their natural advantages and how they can improve their chances. I think this will be an invaluable companion for younger women starting a career who want to find insights in how to ascend the career ladder yet still be true to their roles as leader, mother and family nurturer.

Thank you Emma for finally bringing reality to the workforce! The road has been long and difficult and I appreciate you taking the time to bring our collective voice to be heard by the masses. I hope younger women will value what the previous generation has done, as we have respected the work of our previous generations. This is a must read for any determined woman!

If only I'd had the benefit of Emma's wisdom years ago, then I might have had the courage to explore a career in sales! Wingtips for Women is a fast read - using personal stories and examples from other successful women to drive key points home. This is definitely a book that I will put on my gifting list for young women who aspire to a professional career in sales, but also for those that are still trying to pick their path.
