Firmware not updating issue: He assured me that my Wink Hub had been firmware updated and that's why it was hanging on "updating firmware" and not going any further.

I'm very disappointed in this product. I purchased the Schlage Camelot deadbolt lock to go with this hub, the Quirky Spotter and ordered several of the GE light bulbs. I was excited about the possibilities, yet now I'm ready to return it all just because of the Schlage lock refusing to pair and not being able to update the firmware on the hub (which I assume will fix the pairing issue). Pairing the Spotter was almost as bad, but it eventually completed the process and seems to be working okay with the hub.

As for the pairing issue, the app acts like it's updating the hub, but never actually does anything and eventually goes back to the message telling me there is an update available. I have tried with both an iPhone 5s on iOS8 beta3 and an iPad Mini on iOS 7.

This is the most frustrating hardware setup I've encountered. I'd hesitate to say that this hub is worth the .99 I got it for and I'm upset that I spent hundreds on new door hardware in anticipation of the way this product would work with it. I'm about a minute away from returning everything even though I really want to like this product and really would like to give it a chance. The aggravation is just pushing me over the edge.

Edit 7/11/14: It's only fair to update this review with more information that I learned from Quirky today. The customer service rep seemed very knowledgeable about the products and was able to answer all my questions and help me resolve my issues.

Firmware not updating issue: He assured me that my Wink Hub had been firmware updated and that's why it was hanging on "updating firmware" and not going any further. He says that by removing it from the app (one of my troubleshooting attempts) and re-connecting it the firmware was updated automatically.

I purchased this yesterday in my local Home Depot.. I already have a Vera hub now set up for my home automation which includes (3) Schlage Z-wave locks, 2 Nest Thermostats and nearly a dozen different GE (Jasco) Z-wave light switches (including 3-ways, 4-ways and dimmers) - All of which work flawlessly, but I was interested in switching to this because it adds additional connectivity with Zigbee appliances. The app seems to be decent... which is actually the main reason for my purchase since my wife uses an iPhone, and I am using a Galaxy S4, it is nearly impossible to find an app that works well on both platforms.

I opened the box, which literally only contains the hub and the power supply.. there is no documentation included whatsoever.. no setup/troubleshooting guide .. not even a warranty card. This is really not a huge deal for me personally, though I did expect to see *something* included but does not have any impact on my experience, this is just FYI.

Setup is supposed to be pretty straight forward.. all you have to do is plug in the power, fire up the app and it will connect. Key words being "supposed to be"..

I tried 3 different devices; all of which had a different setup method - none of which actually worked.

I initially tried to setup my hub using my phone - a stock/factory Samsung Galaxy S4, running the latest update available (v. 4.4.2) I fired up the app, told it that I wanted to add a hub, put in my wifi credentials, aaaaaand..... Nothing. The lights on the hub blinked from a yellowish, to a purplish color.. and after several minutes the app would respond only to say it's having a problem with the hub, or that it was taking longer than usual. Would I like to try again?

I was excited to dive into this product. I just received it yesterday. setup was actually quite straight forward. used my iphone, turned on the bluetooth, sat next to the hub and went through the steps as instructed and it was online in less than 5 minutes. I did immediately perform the update (always a good idea to update your gizmos right out of the box to bypass any possible bugs). The update did take a good 15-20 minutes but went without issue. So, the setup experience was great.

I quickly noticed that there is no documentation. OK, it's online - well, not really - there are help screens in the application but only pertain to the specific handful of products they are trying to sell with the hub. I looked at the hub site and the application site - nothing really there. At least not unless it's hidden under some abstract location.

So, how do you add and use the gizmos you already have - it's a mystery.

Usability - I have some z-wave products, wemo, (some Hue ligts on the way backordered for about a month), a lot of x-10 (not supported by this product by the way but I knew that going in) I used for years. and what I quickly learned was the app really doesn't seem to support products that aren't specifically listed in the app. The app quite literally allows you to "add product" and that product is their approved products from the listed vendors. I got it to detect a z-wave garage door sensor - took a lot of poking around to find the z-wave inclusion button - not a nicely intended button on the home screen that says something like "add anew device". When I finally go it to detect it, it pops up as an unkown device on the main screen under the picture of the wink hub. It has this little toggle that lets you turn it off or on.
