3.0 out of 5 stars Not the easiest read, not indepth
I bought this book hoping to learn what a $2 million producer did differently than a $500,000 producer. Hearing their stories does provide inspiration but their is no depth of knowledge to glean from this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb book, June 11, 2002
By
There are a few influential books in the securities industry that should be required reading for all professionals in the securities business. "Successful Telephone Selling" by Martin Shafiroff was a classic in the 80's and 90's and "The Excellent Investment Advisor" by Nick Murray was a compelling book a decade ago. I would be remiss in not including "The Winner's Circle" as a classic in its own right.

"The Winner's Circle" is a superb book for rookies and veterans alike that re-visits some of the very basics of our industry, but--importantly--finds new life for the financial advisor. You'll be glad you read this book. Your advice and service are more necessary than ever, and this book will guide help you guide your business to new and higher levels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely interesting and informative--lots of ideas, June 14, 2002
By
R. Wells (Princeton, NJ) - See all my reviews
This is absolutely one of the most interesting and informative books on our industry I've read in a long time.

One of my biggest complaints about books about our industry is that many authors suggest ideas with little back up or prescriptive methods of application. I have been unable to put this book down. The logic and organization of the book is easy to follow, and the techniques make sense. I find every section has a practical application to my business. I will immediately apply many of these techniques and ideas to my business.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best book on the subject, May 28, 2002
By
This is the only book on the market where you can obtain insights and secrets--based on real experiences--from those who are the best in the business. To truly succeed in this business, you need to learn from the best--otherwise you're just reinventing the wheel and wasting time experimenting with different techniques that may or may not work. Even as a 23-year veteran in the business (and a producing branch manager), I was able to take ideas from every person profiled. This book is required reading in my branch office.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book was better than my training class, May 27, 2002

This book provides lessons from the cream of the crop, the mistakes they've made along the way (and what they learned) and the successes. These are lessons based on actual experience. After reading this book, I wrote a new business plan for my team based on the ideas presented in The Winner's Circle.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book every advisor should read, September 16, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Winner's Circle: How 30 Financial Advisors Became the Best in the Business (The Winner's Circle series) (Hardcover)
This book is excellent for every advisor, whether rookie or veteran. The advice is timeless, and focuses on always doing what's right for the client and building a business based on integrity and professionalism. Everything we've been hearing (teams, wealth management, and so on)is discussed in this book. These top advisors are the vanguards in our industry. They've been pursuing models that the rest of the industry is only now pursuing. I found a lot of value in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Straight Talk from the Pros--an excellent read, July 30, 2002
By
scott g (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
Shook takes a very forthright approach to this topic, and uses anecdotes to get the points across. Relevant "case studies" make up much of the text, with ideas reinforced by way of actual success and failure stories. There are lots of advice books around for financial advisors, but no other provides this high level of information. This one's great for people who think they're too busy to read, or just want to read about particular interests, because you can read it through or open it almost anywhere, and learn something. When I read this, I came up with tons of new ideas from many of the different advisors that are profiled, and these pros provide the blueprint for how to make it happen.

5.0 out of 5 stars practical and to the point, July 2, 2002
By
There are many ideas that are new, as well as many that aren't. Either way, it's interesting to read about the execution and results; especially the failures. For me personally, many of the tactics are ones my team has utilized successfully for years and we firmly believe work. In this vein, the book was reinforcemnt to continue. For the tactics that are new to us, we are already planning to adopt. The book is fun to read and understand.

I really enjoyed reading about these successful individuals. I was surprised at how willing they are to share their experiences, whether good or bad, and how they reached the top echelon in the industry.
