Book Description

October 1, 2008
Do you know the secret of football? You have watched the game, maybe even played it. But, do you know that football has a 5th quarter? Beck entertainingly explains why so many corporations look to hire ex-football players, why this game is so important to our culture, and how anyone can take the lessons football teaches and use them to achieve their life-long dreams. Beck expresses that everyone needs to know the real secret of football. He takes his twelve core principles of success, among them commitment, knowledge, mental toughness, discipline, work ethic, courage, creativity, belief, preparation, confidence, and character, and shows how these twelve principles relate to football. Once you read this, you will have a completely new perspective on the game that will impact your life in very positive ways.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New View on Football, September 29, 2008
This review is from: Winning in the 5th Quarter: Apply the Secrets of Football to Your Life-Strategy Playbook (Paperback)
Wow! Someone finally gets the real meaning of football! I'm not a huge fan of the game, but I've always had respect for the players who would go out and work their tales off to win--or at least to play a good game. When I read Beck's take on the game, I knew why I respected these players! Even when they're little, they have the chance to learn success principles that really will help them in the rest of their lives! I'm all for anything that teaches people to put themselves on the line, to "test their mettle," as Beck says, to learn how to play in the face of overwhelming odds, to dream big and to make those dreams happen. Thank you Bob Beck for putting it all down on paper. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants another take on how to improve their life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Football and life, January 26, 2009
This review is from: Winning in the 5th Quarter: Apply the Secrets of Football to Your Life-Strategy Playbook (Paperback)
Fun and enjoyable to read. The connection to the reality of football, and the many inside details concerning the game, make the book far more interesting than the standard "self-improvement" manual. At the same time they bring home the author's advice and recommendations for organizing one's own pursuit of success and personal discipline. The career story of Beck's son Robbie adds the immediate human dimension as well as some suspense. Every reader will find something to use here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Communicate with your kid, October 12, 2008

Bob Beck nails it in Winning in the Fifth Quarter! He applies a new perspective to time-honored concepts and throws that winning pass into the mix as he blends passion (which he obviously feels for his son, Robbie) with the wisdom of the ages into something that even our young ones can hear!
