3.0 out of 5 stars Stay on topic, please
I thought it was an excellent, concise view of the major influences on our attitude and of our attitude. However, when he starts to make a good point, he jumps to quoting the bible in some effort to make this self-improvement in a religious context. It's a LIFE context, and the bible stuff just gets off track. With the tape, you can tune out and enjoy the scenery until...

Reading this book is one of the best think I've done in my whole life. It has changed my outlook in life. It changed the way I approached everyday living. After reading the book, there was a tremendous impact in the way my family life, my relationships, my career and my studies have changed. I used to be a law student who didn't know where I was heading and was afraid to take chances. But now, I know where I'm headed, I've set the goals I want to achieve and I've put myself in a development plan where I continually improve and better myself. I'm reading more of John Maxwell's books and applying it to my everyday living. I'm listening to at least two positive preaching tapes every week and I'm also reading a postive-thinking book every two weeks. Through John Maxwell, I realized my potential in life. God has used him as an instrument to change me. And although I haven't met him personally, I consider him my mentor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learn The Difference An Attitude Can Make, October 14, 2001
By
Todd Hudnall (Colorado Springs, CO) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Take a pint of Earl Nightengale, a quart of Biblical wisdom, and a gallon of good illustrations and you have the mix for "The Winning Attitude." John Maxwell explains what attitude is and why it is important. He then examines how your attitude is constructed, how it can become unhealthy, and how it can be changed into a vibrant, healthy, and faith-filled attitude. Maxwell draws from many fine sources and then adds his own personal insights to create an outstanding book on the subject. "The Winning Attitude" is enjoyable to read, is a blueprint for attitude development, and is a good source of material for those desiring to discuss the subject of attitude with others. A 30-page study guide makes it a fine book for small groups. In his own life Dr. Maxwell has proven the difference a winning attitude can make.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for an Attitude Adjustment, May 2, 2005
This review is from: The Winning Attitude Your Key To Personal Success (Paperback)
Maxwell has written an excellent book encouraging readers to change their attitudes so they may experience more personal success. While the book is admittingly from an evangelical Christian perspective, anyone can benefit from the material.

Among the points covered include:

1. 7 aspects fo attitudes and how they can affect your life.

2. God thinks more of us than we do ourselves.

3. Do not allow your attitude or others to put you in a box and limit your potential.

4. 4 rules to remember when you have attitude problems.

5. Failures can be the road to our success - it is impossible to succeed without failure.

6. 4 outward causes of attitude problems.

7. 8 choices we can make to improve our attitude.

8. 5 types of opportunities we have to change our attitude.

9. 3 strengths we have for change.

10. 5 things to learn from prayer in Psalm 25:1-10.

Earlier reviewers are put off by Maxwell's "preaching". What do you expect? He was a preacher when he wrote the book!!! It still amazes me that people are still so hypersensitive to whenever Christianity and the Bible are mentioned in a positive light in a book. Perhaps those same reviewers are the very ones who need an attitude adjustment the most!!!

Read, enjoy, and be encouraged to know you have the Lord ready to help you when you need an attitude change.

Highly reccomended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice mix for the open minded, January 11, 2004
By A Customer
I'm a Christian. However, most books touching on Christianity really turn me off, mainly because some Christians come across as if their beliefs are the only right way to think. It's seems to me that Christianity is not the only game out there, and it certainly isn't the oldest. Isn't the goal to believe what Christ believed, and so act as He? Nuff said.

Maxwell's book is terrific. Many authors tell how to have a great attitude, but Maxwell explains that we need more than just directions... We need guidance, and at times, we need help.
Maxwell reminds us that when we need help, there is a power greater than ourselves which can do for us what we can't do for ourselves. Yes, the book does contain Christian references. However, what is built upon that foundation is pure right thinking and common sense.

My greatest challenge has been my thinking, and Maxwell provides a solution.

Attitude creates the difference between mediocre performance and exceptional results. Its not good or bad circumstances, but how and how often we handle circumstances that will determine where we will be. I dont know how John Maxwell puts it all together but its amazing how this book is overflowing with the right information for those who want to learn, change, overcome and move ahead in whatever they are doing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Attitude is Everything!, February 15, 2007
Attitude is a funny thing. It plays a significant role in our daily successes and/or failures, whether people like us or not and our ability to lead. But, as John Maxwell points out in The Winning Attitude, we have complete control over our attitude in any given situation.

Winning Attitude explains how much our attitude effects our lives and what we can do to choose to have a positive attitude daily. Maxwell offers example after example of leaders throughout history who's attitude brought them to success even when those around them said it could not be done... even after they had failed time and time again.

Winning Attitude is one of Maxwell's earlier leadership books and was written from a decidedly Christian/Biblical perspective. Even if you have no interest in Maxwell's religious perspective the points he outlines are solid principles that every business person should take note of.

The book covers four main points:

I. The Consideration of Your Attitude

II. The Construction of Your Attitude

III. The Crashing of Your Attitude

IV. The Changing of Your Attitude

Each section paves the way for the next as Maxwell outlines how our attitude can make or break us in our professional and personal lives. This book is about creating a mentality for success. Every person's success begins and ends with our attitude.

5.0 out of 5 stars Attitude is Vital!, November 26, 2003
By
Only an overcomer can write the kind of things John C. Maxwell writes. You can tell if a person has paid his dues and its evident Maxwell has. It's all a matter of focus. Maxwell says "A hardened attitude is a dreaded disease" and the way to overcome that is to focus on God's power and not the problem.

Maxwell has a gift for putting truths into a fresh framework. For example consider what he says about one's life being affected by attitude, "Our attitude and action toward life help determine what happens to us." In other words, he's about to go into a discussion of self-fulfilling prophecy. He goes on to talk about how attitude affects relationships and other areas of life.

He issues a challenge that I want to someday try myself. He says for the next week, treat every person you meet as the most important person on earth. Imagine the results!

This book is packed with goodies. Maxwell's advice leads to living a quality life because it is solidly based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

4.0 out of 5 stars Need an attitude adjustment? Read this book, July 22, 2003
By
Robert Wynkoop (Washington State) - See all my reviews

Thank you Mr. Maxwell for writing this book, it is sorely needed in the church today. Learning the hard way, I discovered years ago that a negative attitude is a church killer. People, especially baby boomers and busters will not stay at a church where the pastor does not have a winning attitude.

The greatest strength in this book is found in Maxwell's optimism. A winning attitude does not have to be the exclusive property of those who have natural charisma, but can be developed by anyone who is willing to pay the price. Maxwell, not only informs the reader how to develop a winning attitude, but also gives the reader personal application guides to help the reader put what he has just read into action. Are there any weaknesses in this book? Perhaps so, but they elude me. What Maxwell says is so essential for successful leadership that this book is a must read for those leaders who struggle with their attitude.
