It's my pleasure to spread the good news of the soon to be released, Winning the Food Fight, by Steve Willis. Since the Huntington Health Revolution began, families are learning the proper use of food and its intended design. Changes are being made to make our bodies stronger and healthier. I believe we are now ready to learn more. Living in the Huntington WV area and being a part of the Huntington Food Revolution, I was offered a press-kit version of the book to read and review. From the preview of this book, I can see that there are ideas and suggestions made that can give us the health and strength that our Creator designed us to have.

There are many people in the Huntington WV area that accepted the challenge to make significant changes in their lifestyles for the benefit of their health. I was one of those people. My medium frame was carrying about 70 extra pounds and I was afraid that I would soon suffer from diabetes if I didn't change my habits. I had turned fifty years old and I felt much older. With prayer and anticipation, I began to change the kind of food and the amount of food I ate. My husband and I looked forward to daily walks where we strengthened our bodies and enjoyed the time spent together.

I'm convinced that God has given us what is needed to fuel our bodies so that we can live the lives He intended us to live for Him. Winning the Food Fight takes a look at food and health from many different perspectives. Pastor Steve's concern should be taken serious and personally. I look forward to being able to read the book in its entirety and to continue the progress in my family's healthy lifestyle.

The author, Steve Willis, writes from everyman's point of view. Never condescending or superior, especially to those that have made bad food choices. He walks the walk with you, holding your hand and encouraging you every step. The book doesn't preach at you, as so many books of religious nature tend to do. This is a book I wish I could give to everyone on my Christmas list. A great read, whether you have a weight problem or not. Steve helps us to see why we overeat, binge, or just make poor choices, and also helps us to help correct those bad decisions, in life as well as at the dinner table.

Written by an author from a small town's perspective, WINNING tackles an epidemic that is sweeping America. This country is the unhealthiest in the world, purely due to a lifestyle of poor food choices and lack of exercise. As I read this book, I am convinced that there is a real battle being fought which WILL be lost if changes do not occur. Also, I believe that everything that happens in the physical state first happens in the spiritual. Therefore, our minds must first become healthy and there is no better way to accomplish this than by knowing and applying God's word. In my opinion, WINNING is a well written, easy to read exposition that God will use to guide us into the realm of victory in a battle that is being lost every day. May God receive all the glory for revealing His loving Word to us through Steve Willis, the author of WINNING.

As an educator in today's society it is vitally important to know the facts about obesity and health issues that face our world today. The decisions that we as adults make shape how we will teach future generations. It is a shame that we have gotten so lazy and lax with our health and I appreciate that "Winning the food fight..." doesn't sweep this issue under the rug. This book is a real-world approach to reality and the steps that need to be taken to fix the problem. Steve Willis places the facts in front of the reader and gives a Godly, and realistic approach on how to make America better. This is a must read for anyone that works with the youth of America. It is a personal challenge to me and I think to anyone who reads it!

Steve Willis' recently released book, Winning the Food Fight, (Regal, 2012) is more than a book about eating right. It's a book about the physical, social, spiritual, political, economic, personal and corporate facets of food. You look at the list of things that Dr. Willis covers and you may think it would be a rather boring read. It isn't. It's full of stories. He shares stories of how Huntington (America's "fattest" city) became a center for increasing health in the Food Revolution. He shares stories about individuals that have had their lives and families changed as they acquire better food and exercise habits. There are plenty of facts and studies that back up Steve's claims. But it's the stories of changed lives and changing communities that are inspiring.

While this book is written by a "preacher," he never becomes preachy. You can see why chef Jamie Oliver found a friend and ally in Steve. Together they call us to a Food Revolution. This book makes the reasons for this revolution accessible to all. The stories make it inspirational so others can join in.

Having read many books, viewed lots of programs and heard just about all the reasons why our society has lost control of our food priorities, I have found a fresh, enlightening perspective on this frustrating topic. Steve Willis provides an informational, inspirational and common sense approach to addressing the 'runaway food system' in this county. And he does so in an easy to read manner (Something I find is not always the case in some publications on this subject).

The book's first hand stories of real people, dealing with real issues and how they took step by step physical, spiritual and courageous action to retake control, really puts things in perspective. Whether it's calling out big business/the food industry whose interests are usually driven by profit rather than health, or recognizing the champions of the school food movement, this book clearly shows significant research, a love for humanity and a grounded connection to doing 'the right thing.'

Thank you Steve Willis for providing a fresh look at a frustrating problem. I believe we can win this fight. One day at a time!
