This review is from: Winning the Interview Game: Everything You Need to Know to Land the Job (Paperback)
I'm a skeptic by nature, but this book really acted as my personal coach during the 4 weeks that it took for me to find my next Exec position. Bottom line, this book has great, practical information, that took me through the process from getting interviews to making my way through the "Interview Game". In the end I had my choice of several opportunities all of which that sent me offer letters. You would be foolish not to have read this book, prior to starting the interview process.
Thanks again for a great book! Stephen Smith

Very good book but lacks good negotiation advice,

This review is from: Winning the Interview Game: Everything You Need to Know to Land the Job (Paperback)
I agree with the other reviews and found it a great, easy-to-read, realistic read. However, I found the advice on negotiation overly simplistic and optimistic. In corporate America one can't expect to meekly ask for a small amount like $3000 and expect to get a nice "yes" in return. According to other sources I've read, employers often budget 20-30% more for candidates than they initially offer, but hiring managers have no incentive to give that money away unless the candidate convinces them otherwise. This should be done in a cordial manner, but it takes backing up your argument with facts and a list of qualifications. It might take time and will be uncomfortable. This book doesn't provide guidance that will help many job seekers get the salary they want or deserve.

Best interview book ever,

This book changed my whole career outlook...
It was my junior year at UCLA and I had really busted my butt to get good grades and be involved with on campus activities. I looked great on paper and was getting a ton of interviews for engineering internships. But after bombing my 5th interview in a row, I knew something needed to change. So I bought 3 or 4 interview books for my last 3 upcoming interviews. The first couple books didn't really help me with my practice interviews, they gave intangible advice on things I kind of knew but didn't know how to implement. But when I finally got to this book it changed my life. It outlined exactly how I needed to prepare for my interviews. It does take a lot of work, you can't just read it and expect to be great, you have to do the prep work, but when you do, its amazing. After reading the book I ended up sitting on my computer all night coming up with experience vignettes. For the first time I actually felt prepared. After 2 or 3 days of prep work. I was ready to knock my last interviews out of the park. I came out of all three interviews knowing that I killed them. That summer I got job offers from all three companies. Then the next year when I was looking for a full time job, I was able to use what I learned from this book to not only kill my engineering interviews, but kill interviews in completely unrelated fields to engineering. I ultimately took a job with a management consulting firm that specializes in banking consulting. Without a doubt, this book took me from complete interview failure to interview Rockstar. This book is a must read to anyone who is serious about getting the jobs they want.

This book is so well organized and so easy to read you hardly realize what a punch it packs. Right to the point and extremely helpful, without a lot of the typical nonsense. Thanks, Mr. Nierenberg.

I recently reconnected with the author, an executive recruiter who placed me in my most recent executive position back in the year 2000. Alan had made a lasting impression on me, so it was natural to contact him now as I started my new career search. After all, I have never been better coached and prepared by an executive recruiter to win a desired opportunity. So when Alan let me know that he had written a book, I ran right out and picked up a copy. It was an excellent refresher of the extraordinary one-on-one personal coaching I had received in the past from Mr. Neirenberg. I highly recommend this book to everyone seeking a career move. You, too, can benefit from the advice of this consummate professional.
