Finally, a MENTAL SYSTEM that works,
By
This review is from: With Winning in Mind: The Mental Management System (Paperback)
I have read several books on the mental game and this one by far is the best. Lanny does an outstanding job of explaning how performance is generated. In his view performance is a function of three mental processes, the Conscious Mind, the Subconscious Mind, and the Self Image. He shows a model on the relationships of the three and provides outstanding principles that support his view.
Unlike other books that talk about one area of the mental game and try to get you to cope with yourself, this one provides explations of why people are where they are at and shows you how you can improve. I have since purchased other products (such as Freedom Flight, which is on audio and available on Amazon) from Lanny's web sight and have been very pleased with all of them. This book is an easy read, with little filler in it and I would recommend it to everyone. I rank this in my top three books on the mental game, the other two being "The Inner Game of Tennis" by Tim Gallwey and "Fearless Golf" by Gio Valiante. If your looking at getting an edge in the Mental Game, this book if for YOU!

Life Changing Information,
This review is from: With Winning in Mind: The Mental Management System (Paperback)
This is a must have for anyone not just the competive athlete but anyone wanting to improve their life. I have used the techniques in this book for competition and performance with my singing. It has helped with my home life by changing my attitude towards my kids and husband. And helped me with job interviews by helping me learn how to change my self image so it is "like me" to interview well. I recommend this book to everyone I know!
It is an easy read with not much extra filler - just a whole lot of meat to chew on. Lanny Bassham also has an Audio CD "Freedom Flight" which is another incredible life changing tool that I recommend. As a performer I use the techniques provided and I also use the information to help aid others that I mentor to in pageantry. Great information no matter your sport or interest! Love it! Thanks Lanny for sharing your knowledge with the world.

Helped me Win 2 World Titles,
By A Customer
This review is from: With Winning in Mind: The Mental Management System (Paperback)
I recieved this book, from a friend, as I was reaching the top of my shooting career. It IS the very best mental managment system there is. It helps me when there seems there is nothing else to improve on. With Mr. Bassham's ideas I earned 2, back to back world skeet titles and have reached the consistance in my shooting that I have always wanted. I recomend this to anyone who seriously participates in any sport, not only shooting. 2001 and 2002 Ladies Junior World Skeet Champion

Good but dated...,

Attempts to be specifically helpful, but a lot of the techniques have been addressed before. Positive self image, visualization, focusing on the successes, etc.
More of a classic than the best book out. For golf, I would recommend Vision 54.

I had a problem in golf tournaments where my anxiety was taking over. I had a tournament after I read the first 2 chapters and my anxiety dropped by 90%. At my second tournament with 4 chapters read I won. Need I say more? This book will change your attitude in tournaments and you will win.

Definitely a must read,

This book was awesome. Not only was it precise in its information, but it was short and extremely easy to read. Or maybe it was that it was so good, I didn't want to put it down! It truly applies to life, no matter if you are an athlete or a business professional looking to get that "edge". I am a fitness competitor and a business owner, looking to improve my performance in both worlds. Applying techniques that I learned in this book has given me more confidence, and taught me how to stay focused and determined under pressure. I highly recommend it!

Very helpful,

I have read this book and find it very helpful. With tests, interviews, and even with difficult conversations with my spouse. The mental practice that he teaches works. As you get used to the mental practice that the author speaks of, you get more confident and better prepared, with whatever you are doing.I especially like what he says about negative reinforcing. I believe that we all talk to ourselves worse then we would ever let anyone talk to us.

Best Of It's Kind!!!,
By Matt Jones "Matt Jones" (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: With Winning in Mind: The Mental Management System (Paperback)
I have no vested interest in this book (although you'd think I did with how much I rave about it to my clients). I first encountered this book at the tail end of my time competing in archery. I bought it with little expectation and then after reading I wished I'd had it back in primary school when I first started playing sport.
I've seen sport psych from the perspective of both athlete and coach and I've found that Bassham's is very helpful for both parties. I especially love the fact that the book spares the reader from all the academic dribble that is such a feature of many sports psych books. He covers the range of key elements that are found in top personal development programs (whether they be sport or self help) but does so in a very easily digested manner. As far as lending any cred to my comments I've been fortunate enough to be national medalist in 2 different sports, was in the national archery team and held a scholarship as an archer. I've also served as a conditioning coach to many elite athletes and recommend this book to all of them. I say this not to rave on about myself but simply to help the reader see that I'm in a position to provide quite a well informed opinion on books such as this one. Buy it, read it, read it again and implement the program. That's really all I can say. Best of luck, Matt

Great Book for Competitive Dance and Cheerleading!,
By Jennifer Cooper "Jennifer Cooper" (Seguin, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: With Winning in Mind: The Mental Management System (Paperback)
I am the owner of a dance studio in which my students compete three times a year. Although my students have always been very successful at the state level, it was not until reading With Winning in Mind in correlation with Freedom Flight that I was able to see my students win first at the national level. I was able to use these tools with my cheerleading squad as well. They too placed at the national level. I recommend not only this book, but Lanny's other valuable tools as well!

Mental preparation and management SIMPLIFIED!!,
By McKiernan "Mac" (Lancs UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: With Winning in Mind: The Mental Management System (Paperback)
Having read various publications in the field of self improvement, i found this book very easy to read and the information easy to put into practise. The book is given more credibility by the fact that the author has indeed walked the walk. I have used these techniques in competition shooting and as a result have achieved 7 out of 9 Personal bests in 1 season in the UK. OUTSTANDING!
