What can be said about Mille Bornes? If you've played it before, you know how much fun it is. If you've NEVER played it, you must try it...you're in for a treat! Mille Bornes (which, by the way, correctly translates to "thousand milestones") is a simple game: be the first player to drive a total of 1000 kilometers on an imaginary road trip. Sounds easy enough, until your opponent starts hammering you with hazards such as flat tires, speed limits, and accidents! Add to this a few safety cards that can be played at any time to thwart potential hazards and the action can get fast and furious. Truly a fun game for everyone. Knowledge of the metric system (kilometers) is not required, and this is a fun way to get young kids to learn addition of large numbers above 20. Learning how to play will take about 10 minutes.

This collector's edition contains cards with the original 60's artwork (so cool) and has a car-shaped card tray. This great game was out-of-print for several years. I'm glad to see someone is making it again. Grab yourself a copy while you can.

A few notes on production:

1. The cards have the same wonderful graphics as the original game. They are, however, printed on thin, poorly protected card stock. The original game's cards were about the same quality as a Bicycle card deck--meant to last. These are the equivalent of the cheapest deck of poker cards you'd find at a tourist stop. If the game gets played much at all, especially by younger kids, I imagine the cards may not last very long.

2. Only enough score sheets are given to play 4 four-person games. The sheets aren't even scored for easy tear off. I'd photocopy more sheets before playing. If this is what Winning Moves Games expected you to do, the sheets could have been arranged for more economical photocopying.

3. The box the game comes in is much larger than necessary. Admittedly, this is a small detail, but if you plan on traveling with the game much, I'd consider the version Winning Moves sells with newer graphics. The box is about half the size. The tray included in this version is not really necessary for play.

On a positive note, 4 cards are included that detail the game's scoring and situational card play. These are very helpful in play, reducing the need for constantly looking at the directions. Nice job here. The directions are also very easy to understand.

In all, the game is great to play. It's nice to see the old graphics, but for the money I expect better cards.

This is still an excellent game; lots of fun for all ages. However, the "Collector's Edition" is not worth the price--flimsy plastic tray--skimpy, badly printed score sheets. If this is all that's available, I'd say go for it, but I'd recommend looking for another version.

I highly recommed this game for anyone over age 7. My family played it many times when I was a kid, my parents played it with other adult couples and now my husband and I play it. The game is easy to play and fast paced. Basic addition skills are useful during the game to keep track of how far the other players have "traveled" and for adding up the scores after each hand. Good practice for young players.

My better-half and I play this game with another couple all the time and we really enjoy it, so much that we wore out some of the cards from the original 1960's game that belonged to his parents and went in search for a new one. I was so pleased that Amazon had this one. The artwork is original, the colors are just brighter (and perhaps our old cards were this bright at one point) and even though the description says that the cards are oversized, they are the exact size of the older set. The card tray is a little odd for actually taking cards from during play, but we wouldn't trade our new version for anything. We're ordering another one as a housewarming gift. If you're looking for a truly retro game, look no further. It's educational too because it requires keeping track of not only your "miles" but those of your opponents by doing some quick adding in your head. Have some friends over, make some drinks and have a blast playing this fun card game.

When I was a kid we use to play a game called Touring. My guess it was a rival company but it was certainly the same game as Mille Bornes as far as I can recall. Touring hasn't been around for years now but Mille Bornes has continued and this collectors addition should make Baby Boomers and even kids today happy on a rainy day or any time you feel like playing a card game. Anyone that enjoys games with some challenge and luck should enjoy it. The object is to get all your speed cards before your opponents. There are flat tire, run out of gas, speed limit, and wreck cards you use to road block your opponents. Just great fun to play for the whole family. I guarantee if you get them to sit down and play just one hand it will end up being a few hours before you quit. You can set it up and learn the rules quickly and play a few hands for just minutes if you like or spend hours at it to kill time or pass a bad weather day. Excellent family entertainment. This is a real plus to take on trips with the friends or family to kill a little time with when resting or if the rain has dampened your plans for the day. If I have any complaints, it is the newest versions are cheaply made in comparison to the original version. I would rather pay a little more than have such cheaply made cards. As one reviewer astutely put it they use to be like Bicycle brand cards. They use to be nice and thick with a good plastic coating. Now they are like notebook paper with a little wax on them. If you are lucky enough to find a older version at a garage sale or somewhere I recommend it over this one. I probably should have taken off two stars for Durability but I like the game itself so much I wasn't thinking clearly.

This was one of my favorite games when I was young. It is one of those tricky games that you have so much fun playing you don't realize you are learning at the same time. Basically you are a car trying to gain higher and higher speeds. You and your opponents hinder each other by imposing speed limits, throwing flat tires or running out of gas. You both try to counter these with car upgrades and pit stops.

All of the cards are in both French and English. There is counting and strategy involved. Most of all there is plenty of fun. Buy the deluxe edition, if only for the classic art on the cards.

I've been playing Mille Bornes since the 60's and now have a delightful granddaughter with which to share it! Mille Bornes is at once fun, educational, analytical, strategic. Fun for the grownups as well as the kids. Though the box says ages 8 and up - I've introduced the game to some bright 6 year olds and they love it!

So get out your competitive spirit. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!

This is a great game, fun to play, wonderful cards with the original graphics I recall from childhood. That said, there is nothing collectable about this edition, except the cards themselves. I opened this large box, expecting some sort of storage tin, but there is nothing. It is a deck of cards, and a very flimsy plastic card tray made from the kind of plastic one finds used as packing material and instructions. Fifteen dollars for a deck of cards? Give me a break.

Milles Bornes, meaning literally "a thousand (milles) milestones (bornes)" is a game that I have been plying since high school. It is a fast-paced road race played with cards on a table top. It has literally provided hours of fun at each sitting, for more than 30 years. Easily transportable, it can be played wherever there is adequate table (or floor) space to display the cards. I highly recommend this game. (It's only weakness is that if you play it enough you have to replace the cards occasionally.)
