5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic!
I don't know why this classic game isn't more popular and more widely available. It's certainly a lot more fun than a lot of the classic games you find on store shelves.

2.0 out of 5 stars Obsolete references won't hold kids interest
Printed in China, and who knows what's in the ink. Got a headache after opening it from the vapors.

I was hoping for stuff like "oil spill makes you libel" pay fine..." but just saw old stuff my kids would not understand or remember. But this is a great nostogia game for geriatric crowd.

I don't know why this classic game isn't more popular and more widely available. It's certainly a lot more fun than a lot of the classic games you find on store shelves.

This is a very easy to play game. It's basically a roll and move game where you throw dice to move through the gameboard collecting money, units of fame and happiness. You choose your careers with varying amounts of each and when you collect them all ahead of the others, you win. There is not a lot of strategy in it and there is not a lot of interaction with other players as far as trading or winning things off each other goes. For the compulsive type of player you can always plan and play to win by memorizing the best careers to get the maximum amount of money, fame and happiness, but what's the fun in that?

I recommend this easy to play and lots of fun game for the youngish players (6-7 and up) and players just wanting to have a great time without too much cerebral involvement.

Our playgroup has had a lot of fun in creating expansion packs of extra careers such as Dictator (jail your opponents = 10 happiness), rock star (fall off stage = go to hospital), book author (Oprah reads your book = 10 fame), etc. to slide on the board so that's something that players who want something more can do.

Summary: Classic, easy to play and lots of fun!

I LOVED this game as a kid and it was fun to rediscover it! My 15 year old step-daughter enjoyed an "old-fashioned" game as well. It was good to get her away from the computer and video games! I miss the lift and erase score board and they would would be more "eco-friendly" than the paper.

I think that Careers has a lot of math involved in the game. This makes the game extra fun. Now that I have the game, I play it a LOT because I love math. And I love to try to become famous as a goal in Careers. My mom also likes that it has a happiness goal in the game. It has a nice sense of balance, and shows some of the trade offs in life. She thinks that's a nice thing to have presented early, in this easy to access game.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite board game when i was a child., November 7, 2010

This was my favorite board game when I was growing up. I liked it so much because it was the first stimulus in my early life that made me ask myself the question, what do I want out of life? When choosing between Money, Fame, and Happiness, what is more important to me? What ratio of Money, Fame, and Happiness do I think I need to achieve to be happy in life? When you start the game, every player chooses a target value of Money, Fame, and Happiness. The first player to achieve his target values of Money, Fame, and Happiness wins the game. As you progress around the board, you land on entry points to career paths. Every path results in different levels of advancements in Money, Fame, and Happiness. This game is very important on many levels. I liked it because it makes you think about more things than most other board games. This game also creates an amazing opportunity to have a discussion with their children about what THEY think is important in life. On board game collection is complete without a copy of Careers! I inherited a 1965 copy of the game and I will pass it onto my children.

A great game to play with the whole family. I played it on several occasions with my grandparents who were familiar with the premise from the olden days. We all enjoyed it immensely and would recommend it to anyone who has some time on their hands to play with family or friends.

Great fun! Reminded me of Christmas when I was a child and the family would play board games! The game plays exactly like back in the day! You choose your "life course" and have barrels of fun! Gets the family together for some good old fashion strategy!

While renting a vacation home, our family discovered this game. We had to order it when we got home because our daughter (teenager) had so much fun with it. The one we played on vacation was an older version and they have updated some of the cards and careers to be more "PC", but it was still a good time.

Game is a ton of fun even in its modern interpretation. Easily finish able, enough strategy to bring you back and good for teaching kids some concepts of life (and its trade offs). Highly recommended.
