Classic Risk (almost),

It is wonderful to once again be able to buy Risk, my favorite board game, with wooden pieces like the ones I grew up with. They are nicer to play with, more durable, and altogether less tacky than the flimsy plastic pieces that have lately been sold with the game. The differences in the board and the cards seem much less significant to me.
I would have rated this version of Risk 5 stars but for one issue: it includes only the 1959 rules. These rules were revised in 1963, which greatly improved and deepened the game play. Since the rule booklet is not an exact reproduction of the original, and does contain additional information that was not published in 1959, I feel they should have included the revised rules, which have been the accepted standard for decades now. (The major difference is the number of pieces each player starts out with. Risk lovers will know exactly what I am talking about; for everyone else, the details are available online, and definitely worth looking up before you play the game.)

Was thrilled when I saw that the game is available new in its original version with wooden pieces. While I am still glad I ordered it for Xmas, several things are worth mentioning. The board colors and fonts are a bit off from the original and there is no plastic box for the dice. Also, the box is flimsy. All four box cover corners split within the first couple weeks of moderate use. Despite these problems, I have thoroughly enjoyed playing the game with my daughter. However, at $29/$30, it is pricey considering it was manufactured in China. I am sure the makers are laughing all the way to the bank. You may want to consider finding a good used version on eBay instead.

This is the classic game of Risk, vintage map, wooden pieces, dice, and cards; it's easy to learn, and devilish to win. So glad I came across this reissue of the original set for its 50th anniversary. And at a price that is not sky high, this is a game to buy, play, and enjoy; it's not a gold-plated edition for collectors only.

Loved the game as a child, now loving it again with my 8 yr old. Nice chage of pace strategy game, over chess, checkers, stratego and the like.

It's like I hermatically sealed my original Risk game and placed it in a time capsule. I smiled the whole time I played it.

Risk is one of my favorite games of all time. Players start by using their armies to take possession of the many territories on the board which make up the continents North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Players then take turns using the dice to battle each other in an attempt to gain possession of each territory their opponents own. The game ends when a player has eliminated all of his opponents' armies and thus occupies all the territories in the world. The game can last many hours, especially when playing with 4, 5 or 6 players. There are different game variations if you don't want to play the traditional, and normally longer, game of World Domination, though in my personal opinion World Domination is the way to go.There is some strategy involved in Risk as you decide things like which territories to place your armies on, who to attack, and how much fighting you'll do on each turn. At the same time, there is also a lot of luck involved since you're always rolling the dice and are sometimes drawing a card from a deck that can give you an opportunity to place more armies on the board. Overall, Risk can be a very fun and unpredictable game. You never know who's going to roll high numbers, and it's not always clear what territories your opponents are going to try invading in their quest for world domination. I was introduced to this game back in high school when I spent the night at a friends house, and I fell in love with it. Even if I'm not playing well, I still enjoy watching the action unfold between my opponents, and listening to their reactions when something good or bad happens can be entertaining as well. There are so many things that make Risk a great game. It's an all time classic and it's one I never get tired of playing.

Still trying to figure out the rules...I was not raised on this game--even though it's probably 60 years old. Rules are a bit complicated, I think we'll finally get a game in soon. Important to note as advertised on the back of the box, '...six sets of beautiful wooden 'army pieces'...'--is kindof a stretch--they are squares!! wooden squares, tiny wooden squares...I guess they are beauiful...Julia hates it.

I had only played this game twice. Overall the wooden pieces are nice and the storage containers are great for keeping things tidy.

This game purchase has been by far my best purchase! My family of four has hours of fun trying to gain "World Domination". It also helps mom with her geography challenged brain. If you have teenagers and want some family time together, then this is the game for you!

I thought since this was the 1959 classic version it would have the calvary and footsoldier game pieces I grew up with, which are hard now to find. The picture didn't convey that the gamepieces are only colored cubes, which are far less fun to play with. A bit of a shortcoming as far as advertising goes.....some clarification in the future, perhaps?!
