I have been hesitating whether to pick this product, or the one without the DVD, but now I believe, that it would have been a mistake not to take this one.

What I would like to call the would be buyer's attention is the DVD. This is simply the best material that could be provided for the total beginner. It contains about an hour and half of quality presentation by a pro cuber. The major part builds up the basic solution technique in a very clear and logical way, that I believe was carefully selected to be as straightforward (in the sense of complexity) as possible. By watching this tutorial, and some practice anyone can learn to solve the cube in less than 5 minutes from a total beginner level within a few hours.

Additionally some printout materials are as well provided for the more serious people interested in speed cubing.

Simply put, I believe this is the best presentation anyone could hope for aimed at the total beginner level, and is thus a perfect present. I think the few dollars it costs more than just the cube itself well worth the investment, as it turns the initial experience for the newbies from frustration and neglect to something fascinating.

I originally learned a beginner's solving method from a Web site. Since then, I've watched this DVD, and another put out by a magician where solving the cube is part of a magic trick. This DVD is by far the best teaching material I've seen.

I replaced several of my old beginner steps with those taught in this DVD. The teaching is excellent. The teacher is a cube solving champ. Fortunately, this guy can also teach. The video is easy to watch, professionally produced, and will help you learn quickly.

I've gone from solving in about five minutes to under two minutes after watching this DVD. These times are really slow compared with speed-cubers, but those guys are using much, much more complicated techniques which involve a lot of memorization of patterns and moves. The techniques on this DVD are easily within the reach of pretty much anyone.

You will notice in other Rubik's cube reviews that people have a lot of complaints about the cubes. Mainly in the quality of the stickers, which start to come loose and wear out. High-quality replacement stickers from Rubik's are cheap. However, the cube that came with this set has yet to give me a single problem, and it feels tuned slightly loose (which is a good thing, for speed). I've had several cubes, but only one from this special packaging with the DVD. So maybe I just got a good one, but it's definitely better than any stand-alone cube I've bought.

I would not recommend this product. The colored caps on the center blocks are coming off. They snap back on but just pop off minutes later. I'm going to purchase this at Target or Walmart where I can return it easily in case this happens again.

its pretty good.the dvd is awesome,but you can learn just as well from youtube,which is free.the actual cube is not great for competition.and the stickers started comeing off by day 2.it locks up constantly too.but i'll say its very educational for a beginner.so i'll say i dont reccomend it.

The cube included in this package is quite good, but the main aspect that I'm happy about with this product is the DVD! I have always wanted to learn to solve the Rubik's cube, and I was a bit skeptical about learning to solve the cube from a DVD, but after 2 days, I can finally do it! On my way to learn the speed-cubing techniques now!

Fun for everyone. I like it very much, its little hard to slide it though. CD didn't run on my computer.

I'm writing this review for those of you who remember trying to solve the Rubik's Cube as a child, but you couldn't, and it became frustrating, so you just put the cube down and never picked it up again. For whatever reason, people are impressed when you can solve the cube, so it's something most people wish they could do. I was one of those people. After watching the movie, "The Pursuit of Happyness," starring Wil Smith, when I learned that Wil Smith had to learn to solve the cube for the movie role...I was dying to know how to solve it. I heard that Wil Smith learned to solve the cube from Tyson Mao, the guy who will be teaching you on the DVD included with the cube.

I bought the DVD and followed along, and the first half of the instruction was not very challenging. But, it becomes challenging as the DVD goes along, because you are required to memorize algorithms to solve the cube. Another point of difficulty is that you have to remember what to do when you have some more unique circumstances while solving. The instructions are like this: if you do a, and b, but you see c, instead of d, you have to do e. But, if you do a, and b, but you see f instead of c and d, you have to do h. This requires you to memorize quite a bit, especially if you want to solve the cube without referring back to notes or to the video.

I would say on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the hardest level of difficulty, I would give this DVD a 7 for the average adult. I have a graduate school education, and I had to refer back to this (no notes taken), about three or four times. I have to admit, that when Mao tells you on the DVD to practice until you feel comfortable before moving onto the next stage, it's important not to rush it, and to do as you are instructed. If you move ahead without practicing, you will have to go over things more than necessary.

I learned that solving the cube has little to do with intelligence per se, it is mostly an issue of memorization with this toy. I find the cube great for stress relief, killing time, and it's just fun and something cool to do. I highly recommend the cube along with the DVD. If you are patient with the video, follow instructions and take the time to commit things to memory, you will learn to solve the cube without a doubt. I was not interested in speedcubing or blindfolded solving, so I did not continue on to those lessons.

Also, I agree with one of the other reviewers. The Rubik's Cube included with this DVD is a lot more loose than the standalone cubes bought from the store. I think it was manufactured to facilitate the speedcubing aspect of learning. I bought two of these, the second one was purchased later, just to get the loose cube. Highly recommended!!

My 5 and 7 year old boys can now solve the rubik's cube in under 3 minutes. The dvd is wonderful. This is an absolute MUST for anyone wanting to learn to solve the cube. I just hope they come out with instructions for the 4x4 and 5x5 cubes.

I bought it for my brother and he liked it a lot even he learned from the DVD how to solve the cube for about less than 5min and that's really nice.
