The best part of this game is that it takes 1 minute to explain and 3-8 people can play with no teams needed. Participants can easily come in and out of the game without messing it up for everyone. It is the ideal party game or family game night game when you want something loud and silly and easy without learning a whole new complex system.I remembered playing this game when I was a child with my family and bought for my children who began playing successfully at age 8. It is most fun with at least 4 people. It is a hoot with 8, but bring out the aspirin as it will get loud. There aren't too many games that adults, teens and children can play together without being too simple or complex for some. This transcends all age groups and keeps everyone entertained. I can't say enough good about it and think it should be a staple in everyone's game closet. The deck of cards has 8 sets of commodities, 9 cards for each (like suits). You will shuffle the deck with a commodity for each player (4 players, 4 commodities...) reserving the rest and deal out all the cards, giving everyone a mixed hand. The simple goal is to be the first person to trade your cards to end up with a hand of just one type of commodity. To trade, you call out what you want and trade with other players. Since different commodities have different point values, you keep score based on the value of commodity that you acquired, beginning a new round after each successful "win". You can set whatever point value you want to make the game last as long as you want.

We owned the older version of this game--the one with the corn, barley, oats, etch--so we were a little disappointed to see they changed it to silver, gold, etc. At least they include cocoa in the commodities. :-) Anyway, it's still just as fun as ever. Our family has such a rollicking time playing it that I think we scared the neighbors. Fun for everyone without any fuss, just a deck of cards.

Lots of fun. If you like loud crazy games this is it. Make sure you don't have any small kids or toddlers around. We made that mistake and it freaked them out because of how loud we got playing the game. You might get horse the next day. Kids and adults will like it. Good game for Thanksgiving or family reunions. Buy it.

Although the premise of the game seems a little odd, trading commodities, it is an amazingly fun game that is played at every holiday in my family and is an extremely entertaining game for all ages. This is my all time favorite game to play especialy in large groups.

The game that originated in the 1920's is back better than ever in, now in full color. Pit has been updated with modern day commodities like platinum and oil to replace outdated ones like flax and barley.Be warned that this game is LOUD but loads of fun for all ages, as everyone tries to corner the market without getting stuck with the bear.

I grew up on Pit. It was a family camping tradition. My parents, my sis, and I would sit around the little fold-up table in our teeny-tiny little trailer with Coke and Jiffy pop popcorn (you know, the ones that expanded in the metal round when shaken over heat and the tin cover would expand?). We'd get down to business and get loud. I was just as competitive, if not more, than the rest of my family members even though I was the youngest. My dad was pretty ruthless in passing his son the bear just before he pitted out. Thanks, dad. Good times.Great group game. I work with juvenile boys and they have had a blast playing it. Need to call some friends and have a Pit party.

Pit is modeled after the pits at the stock exchange. You start out with 7 cards. There are different commodities (ie. wheat, cocoa, gold) printed on the cards and the object of the game is to have all the cards of one commodity in your hand. You accomplish this by trading cards with the other players; however, you can only offer cards that are the same commodity and you only yell out the number of cards you want to get rid of, not what item you're trading. Once you find someone else who's yelling out the same number that you are, you can trade. So, it may start out polite and quiet, but pretty soon people are yelling out "Two! TWO!", trying to be heard over every one else. So things get loud and crazy!I've played Pit at tons of get-togethers, including family game night, holiday parties, and dinner parties. It actually makes a great ice breaker, because it's so insane! Plus, I've never met a person who didn't like it! Would recommend for anyone, even people who aren't big fans of card or board games. |
