5.0 out of 5 stars Kids learn to read the easy way
Uncle Wiggily has the same appeal as a Dr. Seuss book. The characters are whimsical, the art appealing, and the rhymes help struggling readers. As a high school English teacher, I sometimes get asked by friends to help their children who are having trouble learning to read. 2.0 out of 5 stars Uncle Wiggly Game
I was so excited to find the Uncle Wiggly games for my grandkids. We had been playing an old game of my childhood and they loved it.

The new version is so "dumbed-down" that the kids don't even ask to play that one. They want to play the old one. For example: the path goes only to 100 instead of 151. The paths don't intertwine as in the old game. It's much...

Uncle Wiggily has the same appeal as a Dr. Seuss book. The characters are whimsical, the art appealing, and the rhymes help struggling readers. As a high school English teacher, I sometimes get asked by friends to help their children who are having trouble learning to read. I always bring out my Uncle Wiggily game, which has been in my family for about 30 years. Now I am delighted to be able to buy a copy for a friend's family, whose children always ask to play the game when they come over. Call it nostalgia or call it Peter Pan Syndrome...I still enjoy the game myself!

I grew up with this game as a kid and then my nieces and nephews grew up on it. We have nearly destroyed our original board game from so many played games. I have looked in the stores and done a few web searched in the past to no avail. But today I found it! I just ordered a few for my great niece and great nephew. I know they will grow up with fond memories of laying on the floor playing this game as their two previous generations had. You will enjoy playing this game with your kids as I did mine.

My daughter (5yrs),loves what she calls, "The Rabbit Game". I had this game as a child and loved it then. She can't read the cards very quickly, so we have to help her a bit on that. It was a nice change from Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders! I hope she'll remember it when she has children! Hey, it takes no batteries-yeah

I am only 15 years old but as a kid I played this all time at my babysitters. In fact, it was my favorite game. It really helped me and a few others who went there learn to read and we never got tired of it. It is also extreamly durable because the game was her childrens from about 30 years before. For some reason a few weeks ago this game popped into my head and I had to have it. I still enjoy playing the game as much as I did then and I intend on keeping it to play with my children.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun little poems lead to Dr. Possum, January 26, 2004
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

A winding pathway of one hundred steps takes Uncle Wiggily, the long-eared hare, to Doctor Possum's house. Players pick cards, read the little poem and travel the number of spaces specified. A few spaces tell the player to go back three spaces, but otherwise the action is all forward with no strategy or skill involved. Kids like the rhymes and this is good for those who are learning to read. Family fun, though not much challenge. Nice game board.

My daughter received this game for Christmas and it was instantly her favorite gift of the season. The artwork in the game is charming and the rhymes on every card are wonderful! The play and movement of the characters around the board reminds me a good bit of "Candy Land". The players draw cards to move their piece around the board just as in Candy Land. The difference being that this game uses numbers as opposed to colors. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the numbers on the cards go up to 20. Too many games and toys for children these days seem to assume children can't handle numbers beyond 5 or 10.

I am using this game with my English Language Learners at the elementary school level. It's good for intermediate level students. The kids like it, and they have to be able to read and interact verbally with the other players. I like games that help children use conversational English , and they LOVE playing games! I give Uncle Wiggly a thumbs up!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy this instead of Candyland, April 21, 2005

We recently got this game for my son after reading the reviews here. I had never heard of this game before but it seemed like fun. It is pretty much the same idea as Candyland (advancing pieces based on pure luck of the draw with the goal of making it to the end) but a little more educational. Instead of color cards this game has cards with numbers on them. If you draw a 5 you advance five spaces, etc. There are also cards that have you go backwards.

I have been looking for this game for my daughter who is now 8 and enjoys board games. It was my childhood favorite and I'm excited to find that it will be available again since I can't find my original one. From what I remember, there wasn't much stategy required to play the game just some reading skills were needed.
