5.0 out of 5 stars The best book to get for tournament endgame
Three legendary online poker players explain in detail how to close out a tournament. Each author gives a bunch of hand samples all taken from one tournament from the point of when it hits the money all the way until the end. I give this book five stars because for what it is it's the best book on the market.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK
It is an OK book for reading to entertain but there is lots of repetition and once you trim the fat there is not nuch meat behind it, you might even learn more watching a finale table replay on PS

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book to get for tournament endgame, March 31, 2010

Three legendary online poker players explain in detail how to close out a tournament. Each author gives a bunch of hand samples all taken from one tournament from the point of when it hits the money all the way until the end. I give this book five stars because for what it is it's the best book on the market.

There are a couple of things that people should keep in mind however.

1) It is not a beginner's book and if you haven't played that long you may not understand it.

2) Since they took the examples all from one tournament and specifically a tournament where they came in first, there isn't a lot of shortstack play included. Honestly, this shouldn't bother most experienced players because short stack shove ranges are pretty automatic.

3) Since it only includes from the money until the end, you pretty much have to get the first book.

4) It doesn't cover live poker so there isn't information on physical tells. However, most live tourney players will benefit as live players tend to be worse at reading betting patterns.

Overall, just an awesome book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch Analysis, May 13, 2010

The analysis in this book is even better than volume I. The authors do a great job of putting their opponents on hand ranges, estimating how wide those opponents are opening, how narrow those opponents would call a shove, and calculating how often their hand wins at showdown to come up with the play's overall expected value. Once you are able to calculate pot odds in your head (and I think most people do; if not, save this book for later) estimating your opponent's hand range is where it's at.

4.0 out of 5 stars not for the beginner, September 18, 2010
This review is from: Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time Volume II (Paperback)
This is a hard core instructional poker book. It is a compelation of poker hands that these highly qualified players have put together. They give great instuction, tips and insight into thier thought process. A beginning poker players eyes would roll toward the back of thier head reading this. Its geared toward the intermediate or advanced player. I like to think I'm in the vast pool of intermediate
players and I found this book very helpful and insightful although a bit dry to read. It is well worth the money and time for the right player.

This is an excellent book. It looks at hands played by three very successful online players during the final stages of a tournament. Their styles are aggressive and makes for interesting reading. The book shows why putting your opponents on a range of hands is critical to playing winning poker and gives insight into the thought processes these players use to rate their hand strength pre-flop, post flop, on the turn and at the river. It makes a nice addition to anyone's poker library.

5.0 out of 5 stars A huge win if you're trying to improve your NL tourney game, October 3, 2010
I have read and reread both this book and Volume I. I was going to wait until I had time for a thorough review, but then who knows when/if I'd get to it. This book will help you get deep/win tournaments, particularly on-line. It will make you money, and quickly pay for itself even if you only play in small tournaments. Absolutely fantastic, I can't possibly recommend it strongly enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, but not as good as volume 1., March 28, 2011

Well worth the read and it has already paid for itself. In depth hand analysis from the same 3 pro's as book 1, this concentrates on play when you are already 'in the money' and follows all 3 to tournament victories. The one thing lacking from book 1 is the section where they are all asked how they would play a selection of hands, but i understand this is coming shortly in volume 3.

I was a winning low stakes player already but with the help from these books I have confidence that i can play profitably at a higher level once i've built a big enough bankroll. If you class yourself as an intermediate player or better, buy these books!

This book was written by three very good online poker players with excellent results.

Unlike the first vol. of the this book that dealt with early tournament play and random selected hands, this book looks at the final stages of a multi-table tourney hand by hand. You get insight into some of the top players in today's online games, how they play each hand, and how one hand potentially affects another.

The Apestyles section of the book is on a six-max tournament so if you're looking for something in that format there something for you here.

Each player has a very difference style of play and that comes through as well in the book, which will complement different styles of play of anyone who purchases the book.

One of the nice things about this book is you can put it down for several days and come back to it and not feel completely lost. Also if you only have a couple minutes you can just go through one hand. Another convenient way to go through the material.

My compliments to the authors and publisher (who is a very good poker player himself) for having text-to-speech enabled on the Kindle version. This allows me to interact with the material in different ways. For example I was recently playing in a poker tournament at the Wynn in Las Vegas, and I had the text-to-speech playing through the headphones. It was an enjoyable way to go through the material while playing a poker tournament.

Not necessarily a book for beginners, but an excellent choice to round out an experienced poker tournament players library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth it, May 20, 2011

This review is from: Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time Volume II (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book but it didn't seem to have the same impact as the first volume. It's still very good and full of a lot of great content. Very important for later in tournaments. This book even helped my cash game play. I own and have read 30+ poker books. The first volume of this book somehow "clicked" with me and REALLY helped my hand reading skills. There is so much information in these books that you don't notice right off. Hearing how these guys think, what they do in specific situations or put their opponents on in specific situations, and WHY, was pretty powerful for me. Volumes 1 & 2 highly recommended.
