5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST horse game, January 1, 2006

Horse games are just about the only thing I play, and I have about two dozen of them. This is the ONLY game that I keep playing for years! If you're one who loves to be jockey, then go to GI Jockey 3 or something...

In this game, you are the owner who can buy yearlings at auction or breed your own, then hire trainers and jockeys. You can watch your horse races and bet on them. Winning Post goes on a calendar year, and every December they have Horses/Jockeys/Trainers/Owners/Farms of the Year, etc. There is even a Hall of Fame.

When it's time to retire your horse, only if they were not a successful on the track do they disappear -- "becoming a riding horse." Otherwise you may retire them as breeding stock, keeping them for yourself or selling them to a farm that is willing to pay big bucks. There's a long list of studs you may breed your mares to, with consultation on your choices. It is so exciting the next season when the foals are born, and even more so when they win their first race.

If you're good, one of your horses will go on to the Grand Prix in France, racing against 11 other horses from around the world!

This game is challenging without being disappointing or difficult.

If my house burned down or I somehow lost this game and my Sega Saturn, I would go online and replace both, just to play this game. It is truly worth every penny! I pray that Koei releases Winning Post 7 in English.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic way to simulate horse racing, June 18, 2004

This game is one of only 3 reasons I still have my Sega Saturn. The other 2 reasons are for World Series Baseball 95 and Romance of the 3 Kingdoms..

A fantastic way to simulate horse racing, you become an owner and have to work your way to the Arima Grand Prix in France. You do this by buying/selling/breeding/racing/training horses. You earn money by betting on the races or having your horse win the grand G1 races. The better your horses do, the more money you can make.

If you have had the chance to play this game, its a keeper in your library. My only wish is that Koei would release this game now in English updated for the PC, with mutliplayer support over the internet. I would love to compare my results with players around the world.

You'll probably never get a chance to lay your hands on this game but if you do you won't be disappointed.
