The book a Technical Recruiter uses to write his own resume,
By "talenthunter" (Marina del Rey, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Winning Resumes, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
I use this book when updating my own resume and when revising the resumes of others. I looked through a bunch of similar books and selected this one. I'm ordering more copies. I gave my last one to my wife for an assistant who'd been helpful to her but was being laid off. Using this book, the woman revised her resume and got a new job at the same company making $10k/yr more - probably a 25-30% increase. As a recruiter, I read thousands of resumes - most of them mediocre. That doesnt mean Im good at writing my own resume. I use the book's check lists to make sure I'm not missing anything. I regard a resume as the best piece of work an individual will ever do. Its amazing what you can tell about an individual by reading between the lines of his (or her) resume. What would you do with a Quality Engineer's resume that contains errors? [Toss]! Get this book and use it . . . please.

Great resume basics,

This review is from: Winning Resums (Career Coach) (Paperback)
If you don't know where to start with your resume, this book is one of the resources you should consider before putting pen to paper. It covers all the areas of resume writing, with plenty of do's and don'ts. Resumes are important and set the tone of your job search. Robin Ryan shows how to make the most of your efforts. The 53 common mistakes were helpful and amusing. I enjoyed the book.Wayne D. Ford, Ph.D., author of "The Accelerated Job Search" and "How to Spot a Phony Resume" docwifford@msn.com

Absolutely the Best Resource Book for Resumes,

This review is from: Winning Resumes, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
I used this book to obtain the position in my organization that became available after 15 years. I not only used this book to bring my resume up to par but also utilized Robin Ryan's "Winning Cover Letters" and "60 Seconds and You're Hired." I've recommended these books to at least six other individuals; four have landed their jobs!!! You have to take the time to follow the "mining" techniques but it is well worth the effort. And the suggestions on cover letters are right on the mark. I have had the opportunity within the last couple of months to fill three positions in my company and after reviewing hundreds of cover letters, I now realize how important a concise, to the point cover letter will make or break you.

Truly Useful,
This review is from: Winning Resumes, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
Although I purchased this book after graduating college (over six years ago, now), I still find it useful on a regular basis. I have been able to use this as a reference book again and again, not only when applying for jobs, but also when reviewing others' resumes for hiring purposes, and when updating my own. This resource is far more helpful than many other resume books out there. It does not just give a list of "target" words. It shows you layout, wording, phrasing, what to add on, what to omit. I highly recommend this for everyone needing to (re)create their resume, not just for first time writers!

Direct and Excellent,

This review is from: Winning Resumes, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
I've read through this book and applied the lessons in it to develop various resumes for the jobs I've applied to with good results. The before and after of my resume shows an amazing difference, as well as my approach to applying to jobs and interviewing for them. It is all about gearing your presentation to the job at hand, and this also applies to the interview process. e.g. I was offered a math faculty chair position at a local community college, gotten interviews for excellent jobs, etc. Right now I'm happy with my current gig until I continue my education. I recommend its no-nonsense approach.

Great Book!,

I bought this book after trying to put together my resume for 30 days with no luck. I would say of the 5 books I purchased this was the one I used the most and relied on to assemble my work history into an organized piece of literary work. Prior to reworking my resume I sent out multiple resumes to various job site postings with not one single response other than "we chose somebody else". After using the advice in this book, I sent out 2 resumes and was hired by the first company in 2 weeks (higher level job). Maybe it was coincidence, maybe luck, maybe it helped me focus on my skills...so when my fiance was looking I re-wrote her resume, she submits for one job and gets hired. I think it was the book. However, I would highly recommend purchasing Robin's other books; Cover letters, 60 seconds you are hired, etc...they all flow together and create a cohesive, focused strategy.

Should not be offered as Kindle download,

This review is from: Winning Resumes (Career Coach) (Kindle Edition)
This is a good book. However, it should not be offered in the form of Kindle download. The example resumes are scanned images that have low contrast (black text on gray background), and are illegible on a 7" Kindle screen. Using the Kindle apps on a 17" PC screen, the example resumes are barely legible. The scanned images cannot be enlarge/zoomed in. So buy the hard copy book, but do not buy the Kindle version.
