Reuter (a senior master from Texas) charts ten types of strategies: redeploy and then attack; maneuvering; defense and then attack; forced redeployment; redeploymjent in the heat of battle; the back rank lineup; long range planning; the rook lift; and unusual redeployments. How redeployment figures into openings, the middlegame, and the endings is also

discussed. Computers and their abilities for comiung up with backward moves is also detailed in 60 exercises which humans are urged to take.

Bill Reuter holds an MBA, and is currently in training for the legal profession. He is a chess teacher and coach, and an occasional lecturer at the Houston Chess Club. He recently led the Village Vikings elementary team to first place in the fiercely contested 1998 Texas Junior Championship.
