About the Author

Dave Easter knows what it takes to teach winning roller hockey. Currently the Manager of In-Line Hockey for the Canadian Hockey Association, he coached the Men’s Canadian National In-Line Team to silver medals in the 1995 and 1996 World Championships and also helped steer the junior team to a gold medal in the 1996 World Championships.

An NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) Advanced Level Hockey Coach, Easter also coached in the Western Junior B Ice Hockey League in Ontario, Canada, for five years and served as coaching coordinator for the Chatham Minor League Hockey Association in 1994. He has coached the Men’s In-Line National Team as part of his participation in the Canadian Hockey Association (CHA) Program of Excellence, the organization’s in-line equivalent of its enormously successful ice hockey program.

Easter is a member of the Canadian Hockey Association and the Canadian Professional Coaching Association. An internationally respected ambassador of roller hockey, Easter also has been invited on several occasions to teach the sport in Australia.

As a player, he competed for three years at the Junior B level and for four years as a member of the University of Windsor hockey team.

Easter and his wife Carole live in Chatham, Ontario, with their three children: Jill, Derek, and Jenna. In his leisure time Easter enjoys golf, reading, and family activities.

Dr. K. Vern Stenlund is one of the world’s leading hockey instructors. He has played professional hockey and has coached the sport at all levels. He is also a consultant to the Huron Hockey School and has recently been appointed to the position of Director, Program Development, at Huron.

A first-round choice of the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, Stenlund led the team in scoring with 119 points during the 1975-76 season. A second-round pick by the NHL’s California Golden Seals in 1976, Stenlund eventually played for the Cleveland Barons of the NHL as well as for the Central Hockey League’s Phoenix Roadrunners and Salt Lake City Eagles.

Stenlund began his coaching career directing the London Southwest Midgets of the Ontario Minor League Hockey Association to a provincial championship in 1981-82. He has also coached at both the university and junior levels in Canada and directed the Windsor Bulldogs to a regular season title in 1990-91. Since 1992 he has been head coach of the league-champion Leamington Flyers of the Western Junior B League.

Stenlund is an assistant professor of education at the University of Windsor. He received an EdD from the University of Michigan in 1994. A former area scout for the NHL’s Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Stenlund is a consultant for Vitality Alliance (formerly the Praxis Group of Provo, Utah).

3.0 out of 5 stars This book is a very drill-orientated book., April 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Winning Roller Hockey (Paperback)

Overall, I was diappointed with this book. The
main focus was on drills and I wasn't aware
of it. The drills in it are great. They have
many drills for each individual skill.
However, the text wasn't that good. It seems
like it was written from an ice hockey
player's view point. There was little
consideration for the difference between
roller and ice hockey.

This review is from: Winning Roller Hockey (Paperback)
Although I have never played hockey, I coach a youth roller-hockey team and I find the descriptions and drawings of basic skills extremely useful for improving my ability to explain the core techniques of the game

As a collegiate roller hockey player and youth hockey coach this book was very helpful. It does a good job of breaking down the skill sets that are necessary to exel at roller hockey. The book also has many detailed drills specified for different team and individual goals. Would recommend to begining players, advanced players, and coaches alike.
