5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Start-up Company Executives
I found this book to be extremely helpful and encouraging. I came from a large brokerage- company before founding a start-up, and I was in no mood for techno-jargon or high-falutin' investment banker speak. I found none in Linda's book. Instead I learned that while we have a long way to go with our company, we have done a lot of the basic and most important things...

1.0 out of 5 stars great disappointment
I bought the book due to large volumes of 5 stars. To my disappointment... There is nothing extrodinary worthy of that much praise. I think Pratt's Guide to VC did a better job in terms of winning strategies and you can get it from a local library.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Start-up Company Executives, November 27, 1999
This review is from: Winning Strategies for Capital Formation: Secrets of Funding Start-Ups and Emerging Growth Firms Without Losing Control of Your Idea, Project or Company (Hardcover)
I found this book to be extremely helpful and encouraging. I came from a large brokerage- company before founding a start-up, and I was in no mood for techno-jargon or high-falutin' investment banker speak. I found none in Linda's book. Instead I learned that while we have a long way to go with our company, we have done a lot of the basic and most important things correctly. This is important for baby-entepreneurs like us to hear, because the myriad tasks we face each day are daunting and, at times, overwhelming. This book also has shown us what areas we need to improve on before we tap the capital markets to expand our business. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is about to seek outside investors for his or her company, and wants to learn the ropes quickly yet thoroughly. It is easy to read, but it doesn't gloss-over or skip any important areas. This book is fanstastic as both a primer and as an evaluation tool for entrepreneurs.

5.0 out of 5 stars pretty good book; makes many relevant points., December 1, 1999

I read Linda Chandler's book after meeting her at the ComDex Computer Show. I found her book very enlightening, and she got straight to the heart of the matter--the challenge of raising adequate amounts of capital for a fast growth, startup venture. I know cuz I've been there several times. I give this book 5 stars. It covers many critical points that most early stage companies overlook.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is for anyone serious about starting a new venture, June 2, 1999

This review is from: Winning Strategies for Capital Formation: Secrets of Funding Start-Ups and Emerging Growth Firms Without Losing Control of Your Idea, Project or Company (Hardcover)
I got this book and read it cover-to-cover. Linda Chandler did a great favor to all entrepreneurs. She tells it like it is, in a sobering, realistic view of the capital formation process. The genius of Chandler is that she breaks down the complex process of raising venture capital into the essence. Thus, it may seem "simplistic" at first blush, but believe me--this woman did not raise over a billion dollars in venture funds being simple. Get this book today. It will be valuable and you will turn to it everytime you commence on a fundraising project. A CIO in the e-commerce battle.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read if you own or plan to own a company of any size!, July 18, 1998
This review is from: Winning Strategies for Capital Formation: Secrets of Funding Start-Ups and Emerging Growth Firms Without Losing Control of Your Idea, Project or Company (Hardcover)
Linda Chandler communicates in the financial world the way Rush Limbaugh communicates in the political arena.

After reading this book, I forwarded a copy to a close friend who just happens to be the head Professor for LSU School of Finance & Banking, (Dr. William F. Staats). Dr. Staats travels the country speaking/consulting as an authority on cash flow, finance principals etc. Upon reading Linda's book - he (Dr. Staats implemented Linda's book as a required text for LSU's MBA program).

If you are a business owner, or plan to be or perhaps a CFO or work within the finance community - Linda's book is a MUST READ!

I ordered this book from Amazon and found it very helpful. Our core team read it and discussed the key points, which helped us craft our fund raising strategy. We found the chapter on financials and how to deal with the various kinds of investors most illuminating.

2.0 out of 5 stars One book amongst the many in market, October 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Winning Strategies for Capital Formation: Secrets of Funding Start-Ups and Emerging Growth Firms Without Losing Control of Your Idea, Project or Company (Hardcover)
I had a great expectation from the book after seeing the large number of 5-star reviews. The book certainly has one-two good sections but the rest of it is just plain common sense. The book would have been better with a few more case studies and real statistics behind the arguments put forward by the author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for VC hunting, January 14, 2001

Reading your book made me feel like I was watching "Perfect Storm" for the first time. It made me laugh, and made me smile. It opened my eyes and frightened me. There were parts that depressed me, and areas that were uplifting. Thank you for your time and more importantly, thank you for your book. Without it, like those who have came before me and will come after me I would have never found the answers to my questions.

1.0 out of 5 stars Title is deceptive. Reader's-Digest level reading., May 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Winning Strategies for Capital Formation: Secrets of Funding Start-Ups and Emerging Growth Firms Without Losing Control of Your Idea, Project or Company (Hardcover)
Contrary to the sub-title of the book, Chandler only gives a glossy, Reader's Digest level, birds eye view of what to when approaching prospective investors, understanding the risks of funding your business, looking for investors, and building a credible business plan.

She does not really address how not to lose control of your company, project, or idea, alluded to in the sub-title, so beware. This is why I rate it 1 star. If it weren't for this, I would give it a three star rating.
