5.0 out of 5 stars Learn to Win, September 28, 2001

This review is from: Winning: A Training and Showing Guide for Hunter Seat Riders (Hardcover)
I am an upper level reining competitor who took a class in Hunter/Jumpers to broaden my knowledge and skills in the Jumper world. This book was used as a text for the class. The book begins with a comprehensive overview of the basic principles of horsemanship and leads into advanced concepts, including tips for AHSA tests and a glossary of terms. White-Mullin also addresses a rider's nervousness during competition. Excellent photography and drawings help explain to the brain what the eye is reading! I was very impressed with the level of correctness. I appreciate the confidence and understanding it has given me this discipline and aspect of riding. Excellent for any level of rider desiring to learn. I can't believe there has been no reviews published on this book. It sits on the "most used reference" shelf in mine!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hunter Jumper Bible, June 23, 2007

This review is from: Winning: A Training and Showing Guide for Hunter Seat Riders (Hardcover)
This is one of the most complete and concise books written for the hunter/jumper rider. This book is excellent for the intermediate to advanced rider, but a bit complicated for the beginner rider.
Ms. White-Mullin has an impressive resume when it comes to riding and was once under the tutelage of the legendary George Morris. This training shows in her very correct approach to the sport. She gives very detailed explanations of the 18 tests that can be called in the Hunter ring; what the judge is specifically looking for, and she has detailed photos and describes common faults and means to correct them; maximizing on yor horses conformation and movement. My favorite portion of the book centers around the physics of jumping. I loved her clear and detailed explanation of it; when I first read this 7 years ago I had a riding epiphany... it gave me the theory to help put it all together.
So, for the rider who wants to take thier riding to the next level, this is a must have!
