From the Back Cover

“Dale Collie reaches into his own impressive background as a U.S. Army Ranger to affirm and confirm how the U.S. Army controls stress and increases productivity with strategies that must work in both planned and unplanned situations. Every reader will find a fit for their own objectives in these real-world Army lessons from Dale. A must-read for every leader.”
--Bob Danzig, former CEO, Hearst Newspapers, and author of There is Only One You

For the United States Army, grace under fire isn’t an ideal--it's standard operating procedure. In Winning Under Fire, you’ll discover Army techniques for managing stress in the heat of battle, and you’ll learn how to put them to work in your own organization.

Winning Under Fire was written by a combat-experienced Army major who served in Europe and Vietnam, held leadership positions at two Fortune 500 companies, and ran successful businesses of his own. Drawing upon his own experiences and those of top military leaders--as well as the latest stress management research--Major Collie combines military know-how and business savvy to show you how to:

  • Channel stress into positive energy for achieving goals
  • Know the sources of organizational stress
  • Detect and eliminate stress fractures
  • Stay resilient under all conditions
  • Build teams that work under any extremes
  • Prepare a game plan to get you and your team through every battle
  • Be a great leader in times of great duress

The current economy is stressful. The world is stressful. If stress isn't managed, you won't be successful. Using techniques taught in the Army, Dale expertly shows us how to use those techniques to help us keep our focus and effectively manage life, business and family in today's times.

I picked up the book expecting to read "Stress is bad. Here's how to get rid of it." What I read is that some stress is good. If you're going into battle, stress can help you prepare properly. Good thinking, if you can keep it in perspective. The book actually deals with business issues, using the perspective of an Army ranger who has seen both the fighting side and the business side of life. Worthwhile reading.

Dale Collie's books are entertaining, well written, and full of how to deal with situations. Does not disappoint. This book you have to read slower to absorb the subject matter of stress of which Dale is a expert in handling stress in a war zone while taking care of his men. A great buy for management at any level as he identifies the same combat stress are in the boardroom and conference calls.

Lots of military terminology and lots of military examples, but that is part of the point. The military uses the techniques Dale describes because they work! I can't think of a more stressful situation of someone trying to kill me.

Dale hits the nail on the head about STRESS whether it is external or internal. Dale explains the effects of stress and how to overcome it. With our economy down and now new pressures on business and individuals to perform and cope with so many situations, this book can serve to help them.

In my opinion, this book is not just for businesses or even business settings. Anyone can use this to better their performance and lessen stress in their lives by following the examples and advise Dale provides! That was my main draw!

Prepare, practice, perform with less stress and at a higher level of achievement has been my goal after reading Winning Under Fire.
