5.0 out of 5 stars Winning Without Losing Your Way, November 29, 2003

This review is from: Winning Without Losing Your Way: Character-Centered Leadership (Paperback)
Named as one of the very best books of the year by CEO Refresher; "Winning without Losing your Way" by Rebecca Smith is taking the business world by storm. After the horrors of 9/11, Enron and MCI World, we saw that integrity and honesty was no longer valued. We had lost our way; trust was broken, careers destroyed and respect became a foreign word. First time author, Rebecca Barnett saw this desecration and decided to take action. The end result, is a "winning" book packed with wisdom, by the author and other business people as well. Rebecca Barnett wrote this book based on the principles found within Judo. She has a remarkable power of emotional writing, rarely found in a non- fiction book. She has the incredible gift of motivational speaking, through the written word. This book is targeted for business people; however, it has the ability to inspire anyone. Her concepts are capable of encouraging someone, in any walk of life. "Winning your Way, restores hope to those searching for the integrity that was lost. This book goes a long way in rebuilding the values, which were tossed aside by greed and power. By far, "Winning your Way" will leave the reader with a lasting impression.

Ms. Barnett has said what we are all probably thinking amidst today's quagmire of business scandals. 'Winning without Losing your Way' is a timely book and should be a must read for all CEOs and senior managers. It is time for a redefinition of many aspects of business leadership and operation and starting at the core with the values and focus of our leaders can only help. 4.0 out of 5 stars Good character breeds good leadership, September 13, 2003

This review is from: Winning Without Losing Your Way: Character-Centered Leadership (Paperback)
The early death of her grandfather and her personal fears about death
kept Rebecca Barnett awake at night contemplating what she would leave
behind. She would awaken from a deep sleep, her face wet with tears,
wondering what she was being called to do. Finally she got an answer,
a call to write. After completing a year of research, Ms. Barnett had
enough information to start her book. But for some reason the words
would not flow. It was not until September eleventh, after the world

shifted on its axis, that she became more aware, more focused, and then
the writing began.

Rebecca Barnett has captured a guide to evaluate leadership techniques
without using meaningless buzzwords. She uses this tool to scrutinize
a person's moral core which should help strengthen their conviction when
facing everyday decisions about life. She reminds people of the their
role in building proud organizational cultures.

WINNING WITHOUT LOSING YOUR WAY, is captured in eight chapters, each
highlighting the heart and soul of Character-Centered Leadership.
The book has personal and personable stories from the many people she
interviewed. She aptly focuses on several pertinent issues: how we
define success, character, integrity and courage. Whether or not we
have balance in our lives. And what 'life-skill' encouragement would
we give our children and others looking for advice. She shares her
insight about what really is important at the end of the day. And at
a time when corporations are collapsing inward, this book reminds
readers what it is all about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Developing a values based lifestyle, September 2, 2003
This review is from: Winning Without Losing Your Way: Character-Centered Leadership (Paperback)
In "Winning Without Losing Your Way" author Rebecca Barnett draws a parallel between the lessons she learned through the philosophy of judo and character-based leadership. One of the more interesting parts of the book is a discussion of the business and family values of different generations and how that affects their view of success. Rebecca points out very clearly that the obligation to carry character-based leadership throughout the company is the responsibility of individuals; of you and I. Written in both a philosophical and motivational style, "Winning Without Losing Your Way" is a recommended read for anyone interested in developing a character-centered philosophy that pervades their entire lifestyle.
