As a fan of Robert Lewis Taylor--The Travels of Jamie McPheeters, W.C. Fields: His Follies and His Fortunes--I was curious how Taylor would perform as a biographer. While the book is without footnotes, endnotes, in-text documentation, or bibliography, it is, nevertheless, authoritative and persuasive. What makes it more than a standard biography, however, is Taylor's mature and rewarding sense of humor. His similes and metaphors regularly produced laughter in this reader. While he admired and appreciated Churchill, he nevertheless saw him as human, subject to the same temptations of ego and personality as the rest of us; actually more subject, probably. Highly recommended.
