The Perfect Board Book (series),
By meditating mama (Lawrenceville, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Winter Board Book (Board book)
This title is one of four in a series about the seasons. My daughter and I love it because the book gives us a chance to explore the illustrations without being rushed by a worded story. (Obviously, there is no text.) At a year and a half she'll spend twenty minutes turning the pages and studying the pictures by herself. The illustrations are beautiful without being sacchrine and bring a real sense of the season to the reader. As a parent, I applaud this because it gives me a starting point to talk about the upcoming season and the cycles of the year. I would highly recommend these books!

Gerda Muller's lovely--and wordless--book "Winter" (together with "Spring,"
"Summer," and "Fall") is a cozy share-time each time my two-year-old daughter and I crack the cover. It's about ambiance, really, and imagination. We just tell the story of the pictures, each time a little differently. My daughter's never bored. I'm never bored! Every parent of a pre-school child would benefit from this delicious little quintet of books.

This series of seasons books by Gerda Muller were highly recommended by other parents. I can't be happier with them. There are no words/plot, just engaging scenes of children doing seasonal activities. My two year old can't get enough of them. The pictures are so active and full of detail that they capture his imagination and he pours over the pictures and talks about what he sees.
This is a wonderful way to introduce seasons to a child.

This completes the series for us.
We love these beautifully illustrated books. My son loves them, and I love to exercise my creative mind by making up the stories, which change a little every time I read them. No child should be without these books!

My family absolutely loves all four books. The illustrations are beautiful and timeless. The perfect books to add to any child's collection. I highly recommend them.

THis book leaves a lot to the imagination so that i have heard different family members (including my three year old)tell completely different stories based on the same images. It also reminds both us and our child of the fun moments of the season and of simple activities we can do together. We got this a year ago and it's been a family favourinte ever since. Great alternative to television and basis for family moments.

Perfect for multilingual kids,

My son is being raised trilingual (my husband and I speak different native languages, in addition to English). One of my biggest problems was reading books to my son - most books that he has are in English. I often would have to switch languages on him, when he'd bring me a book to read. These books, however, have no text, and the situations that they describe are universal - hence, perfect for multilingual kids. I can talk about the scenes in whatever language I am talking to the child at the time, and am also able to present the same set of words in different languages.
The pictures are very detailed and realistic. There's also a nice progression in each season depicted. For e.g, winter starts with the first snow and then on to children playing, family time indoors and outdoors, Christmas preparations, and the first crocus blooms under the snow signaling the end of winter. |
