5.0 out of 5 stars Soulful, Romantic + Upbeat and Fun = A Masterpiece!
Eric Carmen has created another masterpiece!

It has been a few years since Eric released new music and I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by several tracks. My favorite tracks are: Every Time I Make Love to You, Isn't It Romantic, Cartoon World, I Wanna Take Forever Tonight. And then there are more wonderful tracks: I Could Really Love...

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT HIS BEST BUT NOT BAD
"Boats Against the Current" is still Eric Carmen's best album, but considering how much time has gone by without recordings, I was pleased to buy and listen to this album. There are definite moments of his best style of writing and singing. "Almost Paradise" is probably the weakest song. Not every album will be a home run but this is a strong double.

And then there are more wonderful tracks: I Could Really Love You, Caroline No, Someone That You Loved Before, I Was Born to Love You, Walk Away Renee, and Almost Paradise.

The more I listen, the more I like this CD. This CD is a nice mix of soulful, romantic ballads and fun, upbeat songs.

DEFINITELY A KEEPER!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Eric Carmen since Boats Against the Current!, October 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Winter Dreams (Audio CD)
I stumbled across this title on Amazon and now can't stop listening. This is a great collection of what he does best, ballads. The album has a lot better feel and continuity than previous efforts. The ballads flow into the uptempo efforts much better. Previous works had a tendancy to shift quite a few gears between songs that made listening a little more uneven. My brother recently got married and used my car for his getaway. I had just received this CD so I queued it up for him in the car when they left the church. The first song they heard as a married couple was 'I Was Born to Love You" and they loved it. They had never heard much Eric Carmen and now want their own copy. I think it may be the perfect song for such events. My girlfriend and I listened to the "Boats Against the Current" 8 track constantly when we dated. She has been my wife for over 17 years now and we finally have a worthy update for the CD player. BUY THIS CD!! You will NOT be disappointed!

I have been an Eric Carmen fan for 25 years. Eric's writing ability once again expresses his unique ability to transform the power of raw emotion into musical form. My only regret was that there were not more of Eric's what I call 'power ballads' like 'Foolin Myself' and 'Sleep With Me'. The Cd is by far another Eric great. Way to go Eric!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Too bad he can't find a US label coz this may be his best, July 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Winter Dreams (Audio CD)
I have been a Carman fan since before the Raspberries. As a Cleveland area native we have been anxiously awaiting the reunion which will take place this summer, so when I saw that Winter Dreams was available as an import I had to order. I recieved it during my lunch hr and took it to the office to play on my pc. 3 of my employees came over and asked what I was playing. I told them and they asked where to buy it coz it was great. Guess that says my opinion too... this may be his best work. The first 3 are ballads, I Was Born To Love You, Someone That You Loved Before, Every Time I Make Love To You ..all among his best ballads ever. Then comes Cartoon World a pop fun song .. Almost Paradise is next and also where you find yourself by this 5th track. This is Eric's original from the movie. Top Down Summer is a Beach Boys styled song ( if you have heard any of the Raspberries, this is similar to Crusin' Music). Isn't It Romantic is a jazzy club mood song. I Could Really Love You is a mild 60's styled rocker (this is what Raspberries would sound like today). Caroline, No is the only track I did not care for. I Wanna Take Forever Tonight another good ballad in the true Carman style. End it with a perfect rendition of Walk Away, Renee ( my fav on the cd for sentimental reasons) and you have the perfect Eric Carman cd. US labels, give Eric the musical and production freedom he wants. I understand he wants to replace Walk Away, Renee and Caroline,No on his US release with 2 new songs of his own; i'll still buy it for the 2 new songs unless they are on a single cd. Eric is a perfectionist which is why he took so long between releases, you won't be sorry if you buy this .. US labels you won't be sorry to sign him. Eric thanks its been too long and well worth the wait. The star is back! can't wait for the summer tour of Raspberries so I can hear these songs live.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST CDs EVER!, June 19, 1999

This is a great CD from start to finish. Eric Carmen has done in one CD what most singers can't do in an entire lifetime. This is an absolute must-have if you like Eric Carmen.

4.0 out of 5 stars The ballads are great, April 2, 1999
This review is from: Winter Dreams (Audio CD)
You won't be disappointed if you're a Carmen fan. The ballads are great, but his faster songs, as usual, are a bit too bubble-gummy. Carmen wrote all but two of the songs here, and records some of the songs he's written that others have successfully recorded. Well worth the import price.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is Ecstacy!!!!, May 4, 2009
This review is from: Winter Dreams (Audio CD)
Eric Carmen is at his finest on this CD. "Winter Dreams" is a smorgasboard of what Mr. Carmen does best....set a mood without being sappy or sugary. My particular favorite is the first track.."I was born to love you". It would be ideal for a wedding or anniversary song.

It is well worth the purchase price for a great listening experience.
